Im getting back into BMX after 25 years and I want to build a custom bike that fits me. Im only 5ft 7 and 250lbs and im not comfortable on 20in. What size frame and wheels do you recommend?

5ft 7" isn't that short for what it's worth..

20.75 should fit well in my opinion..

Get it, ride it, become one with it..

You're welcome..

I’m your height.

Firstly, with 20”, are you referring to the toptube length of a frame, or the wheel diameter size?

The one I'm referring to has 20 tt and 20 wheels.

wheels are wheels. if you're not comfy on 20 what would changing the wheel size do?

do you want us to tell you to go smaller or larger in wheel size?

I don't think anyone here will suggest that you go with 18 inch wheels.. So your options are 20 inch wheels or larger. Maybe try 22 inch wheels? 24 ? 26? 27.5.. 29?

without us knowing what is uncomfortable about 20 inch wheels we can't really offer much help..

I’m 5’7” and ride a 20.75 tt with 20x2.35 tires right now

I would try a bigger tt and bigger bars and maybe some fatter tires

Also 5’7” and I ride a 21.25TT on 20”x2.4” wheels/tyres. From my experience, anything between 20.5”-21” should be a comfortable range for you. What do you find uncomfortable about a 20”? A bigger frame and/or wheel size will make the bike feel more stable, and you’re definitely too big for an 18”

5'5 and a 20.5 works...could always get shorter offsrt forks or smaller reach stem if what you have feels long or vice versa

I ride 19.69” TT and 1.95” tires so don’t run what I run, lol. I’d say between 20.5” and 20.75” would be good.

I was on a 20.5” before my tiny frame now, and I was a little shorter than 5’, 7” when I got my 20.5” and although it felt a little long, it was comfy.

Im 5' 10" - 250. I run 21" TT as well as top load stem and 10" bars. Feels dang good must i say, gives you some room to throw the weight around smile

If 20 inch bikes in general don't feel right, consider looking into some 22" options. I've seen some dudes shred them and it looked completely natural. I feel like a 24 inch always looks like a different genre of bike.

The Verde Spectrum is just one example -

Thanks man I appreciate it. I actually ordered the Subrosa 22 to try out to see how I like it so if im comfortable with it I can start a custom build. Thanks for the advice

I like my bikes to be practical.

Whats the point of a bike if it doesnt get something done AND get you where you need to go.
