You can't take off a Chain without a Breaker.

I've seen some YouTube vids showing how you can locate the masterchain and undo it without a chain breaker, but I'm not sure.

With a chainsaw.
But now seriously just get a chisol and hammer the pin out.
Or the best thing you can do s bring it to your local bike shop

I'm not sure how Masterlinks work, I've never ran one and never will because they are weak as fuck but look on your Chain and find a Link that looks different to the others, if there isn't one you don't have a Masterlink.

I do have a masterchain/link on my chain. But I'm not sure how to exactly remove the chain. There are like two vids on YouTube that I'm aware of that explain how to, but the audio and picture quality suck ass.

If you have a master link you just have to clip the little thing out and it will undo it.
You see that little plate in the picture below, yeah slide it back and then you can remove it.

This also Works, but you need to Reweld the Chain afterwards. But as long as there isn't a small Pinhole in the Weld it will be fine.

I've been riding 20 plus years and master links aren't weak. Also you can break it without a chain breaker. A hammer and flat screw driver worked. Though a chain breaker is better.

Chain breaker 20$ and a bike shop would probs take 5$ to take it off then 5$ to put it on your new frame

That's bs.

Master links don't see too weak to me. When you remove them on and off constantly, then maybe cause the clip starts bending and stuff. Plus, if your chain isn't as tight as anal fucking without lube, then you can't possibly bend the pins on a masterlink in my opinion.

what i did is take two boards about an inch or two thick lay them on the ground about quarter to a half inch apart and take a smallish nail punch (a bit smaller than the pin) lay the pin you want to take out between your two boards (in the gap) put the punch on the pin and hammer away ( to get the pin started out its best if you have a concrete drive way or side walk to put the pin between each concrete slab because the surface of the concrete dosnt budge)

Take your little baby dick and smash it into the pin, it should fit through the pin hole.

Like this. There's even a picture to illustrate how to do it. I also saw a picture not too long ago of someone using a Leatherman multi-tool to push the pin out, but I couldn't find it.

Yeah but the US military use Jeeps (I believe)

|

2/20/2013 9:29 AM

The master link is actually the strongest part of the chain. Why do you think a dirt bike chain has one? They wouldn't use it with that much torque if it didn't work.

With that said, you can't take it on and off all the time or it will get weak.
