Danny's an amazing rider! He's a trials bike rider, so you probably don't want a bike such as that for someone who's racing a BMX track and riding skateparks.

As he is 5, maybe a 16" or 18" BMX would be best. There's a brand called KINK Bike Co. with a few solid 18" completes.

Also, here are a few of my personal favorite edits. There are many different styles of riding BMX bikes, here's a few examples.

Park riding:

Street riding:

Dirt/Trails riding (Actual riding begins around two minutes.):

Flatland riding:

Of course, BMX is about creativity and how a rider chooses to use a BMX bike. There's no fine line between the styles, either. Lots of riders are very well-rounded. Hope this helps a bit!

He'll need a 16" probably, although that depends on his height. My nearly 8 year old has an 18", he's average height for his age and the bike fits him about right but he'll probably stay on 18" until he's 11 or so. Bmx's are supposed to be a bit on the small side smile

There's a poop ton of bmx vids on YouTube, and there's a site called bmxmdb.com that has loads of vids on too. But it would be a good idea for you to watch them with him, with your finger on the pause button as there's quite often swearing and other stupid stuff on them.

At 5 you're definitely looking at a 16" it could even be a little big depending on his size and confidence with it.

If you're looking to get him in to racing, BMX race bikes are different. He would either be riding a Micro or a Mini depending again on how tall he is and his confidence level.

According to Mafia bikes site 16 inch wheeled bikes are for 5-8 year olds, and 18 inch for 8-11 year olds

Heres a suitable 16 inch bike http://us.mafiabike.com/index.php/bikes/all-bikes/bbkush-red-bmx-bike-detail

Skatepark and track bikes would be different though. The above is a skatepark bike. You could use a skatepark bike on a track (although it'd be very heavy). Id be less inclined to use a track bike in a skatepark though. They are made to be light and not as strong
