I am running a 30 10 gearing and I am getting a shadow btr hub which is nine if I get a 31 sprocket will it feel the same as 30 10 or be harder to pedal?

30x10 and you got the clean 3.0 ratio, with your new 9t driver, you got a 3,33 ratio so it will be a bit harder to pedal than with your old hub (when you ride slow) but you got a better top speed.

To compare with others transmissions, a 25x9 gearing got a 2,77 ratio and a 28x9 a 3,11 ratio.

Personnaly i ride 28x9, because 25x9 feels to weak, but if your new 30x9 feels to hard, you still can buy a 28 or 27 tooth sprocket and it will feel the same as your old 30x10.

It will be harder to pedal but you will have a higher top speed.

I rode 30/9 for awhile when I first got into riding, it wasn't THAT bad once I got used to it, but it was still much harder than the standard 25/9, so 31/9 would be fairly similar.

Why are you getting a 31t though?

27/9 will feel the exact same. 28/9 is a sweet ratio aswell. 30/9 is rough imo but i know some people who like it.

I ride 30 to 9 it's great

Personally I wouldn't see a need to go any higher then 30 9

31 9 will be harder to pedal and I'd buy a new chain every season with the stress that would be on that chain

My new setup is 30-9. I'm not expectin it to be bad at all

gear ratios are only part of how your drivetrain will feel, GAIN ratios is the real factor!

Actually, the stresses on that chain would be spread over more teeth, so without hitting it on something, it would last longer, at least on paper.

I went to 25/9 because i could only find an MDS for a reasonable price at the time for that. Its fine, for me, i ride some pretty tight situations, so i need some nice quick speed all at once. I don't like how it feels when im trying to go really fast. I think when summer rolls around ill snag a nice 30 tooth sprocket. or just another 28 tooth. The nice thing about 25/9 right now is i can rip up the hills to class, not worrying at all.

27/9 feels alot different and more smooth than 28/9

I ran 30-9 with 177mm profile arms and it was the shit. I exploded those cranks and had to back to 175's and it was only ok. 28-9 with 175's seemed to be the hot setup for me.

30-10 on 175 for me and I love it

I cant see 31 being much worse than 30... but yeah. I didn't even know people made 31t sprockets lol

What sort of ratios are people running for park and flat land?

|

1/14/2015 4:25 AM

I'm running an odd gear ratio 29/10 and it feel great.... 30/10 would feel perfect.. From my experience I wouldn't buy a new sprocket for 1 tooth not that different?? I have a 28t tuffman.. 28/9 nice ratio..

Those of you running 30 tooth front sprockets, do you find they are small enough to clear the coping on ramps? I was hoping to go slightly bigger than the standard 9/25, but not sure if a bigger 28-30 tooth sprocket will clear.

My 28t hits some times but it is a guarded sprocket

My guess is that it would definitely hit

Learn how to drop in and it wont matter what size sprocket you run.

This. You'd have to really try to get your sprocket to hit. Even when I'm being lazy my 30t has never touched. You kids have it good. In my day it was 44t and if you could afford it you could move down to 36-13

Also slams perfect with a regular chain and 13.5 chain stay

Honestly this gear ratios feels so good i think it should become the new 25/9
