I feel like an idiot because i literally have the simplest brake setup you can get but i need help. I have the springfields and adjustable quic slick and everything is on correctly and stuff but there is a major issue. One brake pad barely even touches the rim. My wheel isnt too terribly out of true as far as i can tell and because of the way springfield brakes are setup there are no individual springs to adjust so i could use a little help. And btw when i first started biking when i was around 11ish i was influenced by the idea that no brakes make you cooler and when my stock breaks broke i used that as an excuse to take them off, so this is my first pair of breaks since that pair so i know just about nothing. Thanks.

Make your straddle cable shorter? Wait, nevermind. Idk man, maybe you need to adjust your barrel on your lever?

Its as short as it can go. The other break pad touches easily when i squeeze.

is your wheel dished at all? take your wheel off, and put it in the frame backwards. is the same brake pad close to the rim, or is it the other pad that's almost touching now? if it's the other pad, your wheel's dished and is an easy fix.

Also are you tightening both arms at the same time? could also be another reason.

wheel isnt set to the side or out of true, not sure what you meant by dished. Im tightening the bottom break arm then the top one. They sit a little uneven without the straddle cable attached, is that normal?

The only thing I could think of is making sure you have an equal amount of spacers on each brake pad. Check to make sure your rim is in the dropout right. I know when I would run kool stop pads they are thinner and the wheel has to be in the right spot to work and some times the wheel has to be lined up with the brakes even if its not perfect with the frame.

i thought these brakes were supposed to be super easy to get on my god am i this stupid. i put the bottom arm on, tighten it. put on the top one, tighten it. they sit kinda uneven. how. i attach the straddle cable, squeeze lever, and the metal piece where you adjust the length twists to the right a little and the left brake pad barely touches. how.

If your wheel is dished, that means that your rim is laced with an offset, which would cause your issue

who cares if the pads aren't spaced evenly?

IF your brakes work when you pull the lever, then you're good to go.

You can add a washer to one brake pad if you need to, as mentioned by someone else.

Do the brakes work correctly? meaning, can you skid, etc? When you pull the lever, do the brakes feel like brakes or are they not functioning in that sense?
