I really do appreciate the clean look of a brakeless frame. I also dig my brakes for city riding.

My frame has removable 990's so here is my setup.

First my craptastic hinged mission brake lever thats going to bend/snap the first time it kisses the concrete

Honestly levers are what caused trouble for certain things for me. A lever catching your pocket on a turndown is scary, same with tucks. Barspins SUCK with a front brake lever in my opinion, because I am not used to them.

I'm really likeing the removable brakes setup, I've had the brake lever get in the way on a few occasions. The worst event was years ago, i had a hole in my glove. Somehow I managed to get my brakelever caught in that hole, while in the air boosting a massive dirtmound, I landed with my rear tire locked up. It was pretty miserable but i pulled through it.

Brakes have saved my ass too many times to count. My brakes have saved other people's asses too many times to count as well.

In the city, people walk out in front of me all the time, car doors come flying open, cars will brakecheck you, and cars will turn into you.

I need my brakes, i ride eveywhere. It makes my blood boil when i see some trendy fuck riding down a city street brakeless. Hell, I got screamed at by one about a week ago. I stopped at a cross walk because the light had just changed. I was at a complete stop, sitting there for atleast one full second then some prick starts yelling at me "no brakes, get outta the way".

I couldn't even make an attempt to catch up to him after he ran the redlight traffic started clogging the intersection. I wanted to throw my assend into his front wheel and send him to the pavement.

Take your brakes off and see how you like being brakeless.

If you like it, keep the brakes off.

If not, put them back on.

I've been riding brakeless since 2000. In highschool, I was too poor to keep them going and just got used to not having them. It's never stopped me from learning tricks or riding in the city. Downtown hillbombs were a little hairy at times, but that's part of BMX. I've even been known to build and jump a double or two, so trails are no excuse. Really, you shouldn't have to ask what other people think you should do about your brakes. Do it or don't do it, who gives a shit? I'm not gonna try to speak for the rest of us "trendy fucks", but I kinda think its funny that you're calling brakeless riders down, while asking if you should become one.

I wasn't calling you out, nor was I t trying to join the likes of you trendy fucks either. I know how to put my foot on my back tire to stop. And I definitly don't need ask if I should become one. I wanted to see what other people were doing. I like removable brakes, because I can remove them. I'm surprised to hear how many people are rocking a front brake. But your the only douchey sounding one taking offense, apparently brakeless discriminiation run rampant where your at.

I'll be sure to start an advocacy group for the oppressed brakeless rider.

My main point was, I like removable brakes.

I bet you can't do a fufanu tongue

Nah in all seriousness, it doesn't matter what one runs and what another runs. We all ride bikes. Why THE HELL DOES ANYONE GIVE A CRAP WHO RIDES WHAT?

I get harassed for brakes all the time because I am one of about 3 that run them around here. They bash brakes, then think a 540 tire tap is super cool. Or a bar to tire tap. Ridiculous.

I also like being harassed for not running 4 pegs all the time. I don't grind much. Never really cared to. But that is a big taboo around here.

Actually, I can fufanu. Just throw the foot in the tire and crank hard. I ride with lots of riders who run brakes, I don't care what they run. I also won't generalize a rider into a derogative sub-category because they set their bike up a certain way. It sounded like you were asking because you mention you could be brakeless if you wanted, plus the title of your thread, Nwewinit. In either case, douchey or not, I do take offense to bike Nazis who call other people down for what they ride. I'm sure if we were in the '90s, you'd have something to say about riders who rode only a back brake.

Nope, I only had back brake in the 90's until my pitbulls broke and had to take them off. With these new fangled 990's I can stomp on my tire and squeeze a brake lever.
I only call riders out for being douchey, which is different then attemping to figure out what the norm is, and adding insight with a scenario as to why I brought it up.

So I'm not exactly sure if I fall under that whole bike nazi scenario, but if you were offended. Well THERE JUST BRAKES so i don't really care if you took it personal.

That's cool, dude. I just don't see the point in calling down brakeless riders in something called "freestyle". Some of the most influential riders in BMX have been, and still are, brakeless.

Fuck I know that feeling hahaha. Also wearing button up shirts and it gets caught inside the shirt. As for brakes I'm all for them. Would be on 247 but haven't been bothered to set them up again since the frame change.
My setup is easy. Tech 77, tree ss cable and odyssey evo2. Perfect

This.

Also taking mine off helped me not bitch out. When I was just starting to hit rails, I would always bitch out and pull my brake. Everyone kept trying to get me to take them off but I was the last of my group of friends I started with to take my brakes off, only because I snapped my cable though. After I took them off I stopped bitching out of rails because it was either hit them, or eat shit trying to stop myself. Also when I had brakes I always hit my knuckle on the lever somehow.

Everyone's different though but yeah.

I threw them back on for a little bit last year and they're a lot of fun, but not my style so I took them back off. Plus barspins were a bitch for me, especially bar to fakies cause I always caught & pulled the lever by accident and that's never fun haha.

Bottom line though, brakes are preference. You shouldn't knock people for riding them, and you shouldn't knock others for not riding them. Unless they take them off before learning how to stop without brakes, those people are quite dumb.

I had a strange dream that I had front brakes. I did nose manual 540s just like that.

I'm not down talking any body by saying this but legitimately what is the point of front brakes? Or more so what are the advantages of riding them? Every experience I've personally had with them ended with flipping over the handle bars, getting the wind knocked out of me and almost breaking my ribs.... Obviously I was doing something wrong lol.

Currently I'm riding just rear brakes and it's the first time in years I'm riding them (mostly because I didn't have time or money to invest previously) and I'm loving them. The only couple issues I have with brakeless riders is them constantly down talking people who run brakes (not saying all do) like because they have one less "safety feature" on their bike instantly makes them cooler. The other issue I have is when kids take their brakes off to early just because every body else is doing it. I've seen quite a few younger kids do this and not realize how much brake less riders actually use their foot and watch them keep grabbing for the invisible brake lever and eat shit hard as fuck or in at least one instance get hit by a car (that was a bad day) any ways it's all personal preference, some times I wish I didn't have them so I wouldnt bitch out as easily but they also save my ass a lot.

For city riding front/back brake combo makes you stop on a dime, it's nice. There also used for tricks, I'm horrible with left brake levers. I just run rear brakes for city riding. If I want to take them off It's seven nuts, to remove brakes, mounts, braketabs and lever. I like the hinged brakelevers, removable 990's and most of all that oddssey adjustable quickslick cable. If my brakes fail on me 990's are mounted in a place where they don't get in the way of stomping on my tire. My foots not as fast as my fingers, and when your being swarmed by cars, idiot pedestrians, and cab doors flying open you better be pretty snappy with the brakes.
