keep them on while you learn to ride. who cares if your rims get black.
If you really ride, you will be replacing parts over time so don't worry what they look like.

That's all.
Edited Date/Time:
leave them while you get comfortable riding then do what you want with them when you feel you're ready

if that is you in your picture, I completely understand.
Brakes they are brakes.
And leave them on. They can help a lot when starting out and also you can do tricks like lawnmowers fufanus and abubacas
I'm a punk bmxer, I can't do it well so I do it loud.
Brakes man don't try to follow people at the park just cause they have them off don't mean you gotta take them off do whats comftable for yourself personally you can have such more fun with brakes even front brakes are making a big comeback

Can you do whips and bars all day? I'm guessing the answer is no if you just started, or else a gyro is another option. Keep your brakes on and only use them if absolutely necessary to get a feel for riding brakeless if you truly feel the need. Even if you have ultimate bike control, brakes come in handy for those "oh shit" moments like when a car pulls out in front of you or when some kid snakes you at the park. Just my take.
