I wish to clean my chain and I was wondering if soaking it in petrol will clean all the clunky grease off?

Yes. Gasoline has always been a good degreaser. Or if you have a few bucks, go to the auto part store and buy some brake cleaner. That stuff eats gunk like that fast. Just be sure to let your chain dry thoroughly before oiling it up again.

Yeah soak it and everything within 12ft of it in gasoline and gently apply a lit match to the chain.

In just a few minutes, all the gunk will have disappeared!

This, let it fully dry, THEN relubricate it. Do so monthly at a minimum.
