Is this real copper?? If so wont it gradually oxidise and go a moldy green colour? Or are you clear coating to prevent that??

|

8/23/2015 6:42 PM

someone should try to nickel plate if thats possible

If it was a polished, shiny copper I would be in. But it is a dull weathered look, and I personally am not a fan.

Kudos for doing something different!

Ever since seeing Ted James and his custom bikes copper plated I always wanted to do this. Stoked on how it came out for you!

It will be a nicer deep look when I polish is properly and clear coat it grin

I would be all over it if it came out like a brand new penny shine.

Just gotta polish it, and she'll shine. Copper is soft, so polishing is easy (meaning fast, so just do it by hand) and ends in a brighter/deeper color than other metals (a good polishing will also make the copper plating more durable).

Twinkle Copper Polish is made for copper kitchenware, and would work the same on a bike frame. Or you could cut a lemon in have, sprinkle salt on that and rub the frame with the cut end....sound stupid, but it works. Wash it down quick, complete dry it as fast as you can, then clear coat it. (here's a lemon polish video

This is a drift trike project but I didn't do the plating just used rustoleum hammered finish copper definitely not the same thing but a good cheap and fast alternative.

I tried to build a drift trike like that. Rear end was too short and week.

One could achieve a similar-ish (colorwise) effect by removing all paint on the ends of their frame, and letting them corrode for a bit.

Yeah, it's pretty much a part of the frame now....you have to reverse electroplate it to get it off.

Can't wait to see the lemon/salt polish.

dammnnnn that looks pretty sick man. i dig it

I did the salt/lemon/vinegar thing

The head tube was done so well because I let it rest before I touched it in the beginning unlike the bars and Chainsteay dizzy

It could've been PERFECT if I hadn't gotten it wet before unsure
