Hi, im new to forums but I desperately need help, ive recently bought some bikes second hand and in the process of swapping parts between them I was changing headsets. And the allen bolt that screws into the fork has threaded and now I can't get it out or get the forks off. I know that drilling it out is an option but I dont want to damage the forks because they're haro and fairly expensive. does anyone have any advice on how I could get this allen bolt out?? thanks smile

Sorry bud, having a hard time deciphering what your problem is ??

And the allen bolt that screws into the fork has threaded and now I can't get it out or get the forks off.

Is the Allen head stripped ? Is it cross threaded?
Post a pic of the problem and a little clearer write up and we may be able to help you :]

Not really sure...Hate to give you the wrong advice. Can you post a pic?

Is the Allen head stripped ? If not, make sure you have a good snug fitting Allen wrench and put a cheater bar on it and try unscrewing it (righty titghty,,lefty loosey). If you get it to move work the bolt out by working it back and forth.

The "screech" you heard was probably just the cap bolt against the stem...metal on metal.
Grease is your friend, use plenty of it!

There should be a picture already up but ill post it again, I have the correct allen wrench but what's a cheater bar? And the screech was definitaly not a metal on metal, I know what that sounds like but thanks so far smile

just use a cheater bar to get it out... then post a pic of the threads and we can help you from there... spray either silicone spray or (haters gonna hate) wd40 and then use a cheater bar.

Sorry, I meant a pic of YOUR stem and bolt.

Cheater bar = extension or something to give you more leverage,,, make the wrench longer where you put your hand.

I bet the star nut inside the fork weld broke. Have to try and cut off the head of the bolt, buy a new fork nut, and reinstall

Star nut is toast smile

It must not be a welded star nut.
