Coping with having your dream bike stolen (Rebuild Complete)

My bike was stolen about a month ago, right from the side of my house.

S&M LAF trans red, titanium profile sprocket. Those are the parts that hurt the most to lose. They could've taken my dirtbike and I wouldn't have cared as much as that damn sprocket.

I've done everything I can as far as trying to recover it, but I wasn't then and still am not very optimistic.

So here I am at midnight, posting on a BMX forum, with work to go to in 4 hours.

Anyone have any advice on how to get over having a bike you spent $1000+ on just walk away? I'm going to start by building another bike. But that doesn't bring back the blood sweat and memories of a bike I rode daily for 6 years.

Honestly for me, it would partially be depressing and upsetting due to the effort and money put into it, but the psychological memories are another thing. I mean, depending on how attached you are to your bike (all BMXer's really should be), then your sadness would be worse. Only way I could possibly see it is to somehow retrieve the bike or build up a whole new setup that you like. That Profile ti sprocket may be hard to find, but hey, maybe you'll somehow scrape up the money to finally go and find another one.

I feel ya OP. I knew there was no chance of getting my old one back as it was stolen out of my truck when I was up north. But I used whatever money I had (before I had a job) and it took a long time to piece together another. But once I got the same frame with way better parts, I felt better but I took it as a lesson learned and do whatever it takes to not let it happen again. Like the other day, I was out of state and took my bike but didn't have a lock with me, and I didn't really want to buy another one, but I just kept thinking that a lock costs about 100x less than a new bike would. Then a couple days later, I was with my girl's brother and his friends and one of the girls randomly walked up to me and was like "let me take your bike to run home real quick, i'll only be gone like 5-10 minutes." So I told her she was fuckin high. Lol. One of his friends has a Sunday(idk which one) and he lets people take off with it sometimes and I told him he's crazy and lucky it's come back every time. I'm not willing to risk it tho. But things will get better man, especially since you have a job. Put a little money aside every check, or if you get a Christmas bonus or something, just drop the money on a decent complete if it's within your budget, or piece together something from deals on here.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a new bike. So far the things I've gathered are:

S&M LTF 20.8" (in the mail)
S&M Pitchfork XLT-T
S&M Long Johnson/ Coxie Director Seat
Profile Racing Titanium Imperial 25t Sproket... Found it on craigslist!
Profile Racing Mini SS with Titanium 9t driver (hopefully in the mail already)
Odyssey JC PC pedals

The entire bike will be built with only those 3 companies, except for the chain.

The rest of my list, which will be acquired over the next couple of months, is as follows:

S&M Slam XLT Bars
S&M/ODI Grips
Profile Racing 19mm cranks, titanium spindle
Profile Racing Mini front hub
Profile Racing Gun drilled titanium rear axle
Profile Racing MicroMini Acoustic Stem
Odyssey Aerospace Rims
Shadow Halflink Race
and more..

Murder of the person who took it/tracking them down, constantly looking.

I would find them and probably harm them and/or steal it back.

I was extremely paranoid about my old bike for the longest time, nobody could ride it that I didn't know, and it would never leave my sight when I was out in the city. But I stopped riding about a year ago and it sat in a shed for a while. When I got back on it I wasn't as diligent, and shit happened.

I wasn't kidding about the GPS tracker. The one I posted before is too bulky for a bike, since it has external antennas and is set up to control car alarms and ignition.

This one weighs in at 1 ounce, antennas are built in, and only has 2 wires coming out for power. IBSound Mini GPS Tracker

I'll use a 2.5oz li-po battery for airsoft guns, and voila, a 3.5oz gps tracker. Nobody is going to expect that, besides everyone that reads this.

looks a lot better
it is pretty small, and other people's phones if they have the app will send location data to you if it is in their proximity
seems like a cool idea

Exactly. That only works within bluetooth range, which without line of sight is much less than the advertised 100 feet. Mine will work anywhere you get a GPS signal, then when it looses GPS it can triangulate the position with GSM, and when you loose GSM the device records where it goes until it gets a signal again.

But thank you for showing me that, I'll be putting one on my key ring.

Stripped, ground, sanded, polished:

Next I'll be rust bluing the frame, forks, bars, and cranks. Which involves coating the parts in acid, letting em rust for a couple minutes, then boiling the red rust till it turns blackish/blue, polish and repeat till desired effect is achieved, like this:

Dope. A copper/tarnish bike theme was always sick to me and yours is kinda like that. I think once it tarnishes it'll look rad as fook

Meeeeee I got 2 bikes stolen at the same time . 100$ lock cut like butter , plus the other lock too.

I just swore , made it my profile picture , got into the gym and got to work alot more . Chilled , bought a phone to make up for it and play music and games when it's rainy on it. Just do your shit you enjoy outside of BMX. Oh , I play basketball like once a week too. It's almost refreshing , obviously I think about BMX everyday but it's more of a drive to do better and stop being a pussy when you have something you love taken away.

Having your bike stolen is really depressing. I remember I bought a custom Fit build about 6 years ago, and literally the day after I built it up, I was riding my bike to the skatepark until these four black guys jumped out in front of me, one with a gun pointed directly at my chest. I was young as hell at the time, so I didn't know what to do. I ended up giving my bike up to them for my own protection, and one of the guys rode off with it. I remember running to the house right next to me, and I asked the owners of the house if I could use their phone since I didn't have a phone at the time. I called the cops and then called my parents. They seriously had like 15 squad cars out looking for my bike, but those fuckers disappeared. About $1,500 down the drain. I ended up having to save up for another bike which took like 2 years, but during that time I invested myself into other hobbies, such as graphic design, photography, ect. Just stay busy to keep your mind off things, and focus on work in the meantime. Next time remember to make sure your bike is always safe, no matter where you are or what you're doing. Try not to stress about it too much because what's done is done. Bad things always happen to good people. I can't stand thieves man...

A bicycle isn't worth your life, so good decision you made there.

I think I've successfully coped. Having all this titanium stuff makes me very happy, and this bike will be 100% better than my old one.

Here's the list so far:

S&M LTF 20.8" -$200
S&M Pitchfork XLT-T -Package deal $240
S&M Long Johnson/ Coxie Director Seat -Package Deal $240
S&M Lil Redneck Stem -$60
Profile Racing Titanium Imperial 25t Sproket -Package Deal $240
Odyssey JC PC pedals -Package Deal $240
S&M Slam XLT Bars -$65
S&M Grips -Package Deal $240
Profile Racing 170mm cranks, titanium spindle -$150 Craigslist
Alienation Deviant/Skylark $44
Total: $759

Just need a wheel set, tires, and chain.
