New around here, my son and I have been putting a bike together. It finally runs as of today!

Anyways here are some questions I have:

> Is there a feedback or rating system for buyers and sellers in the for sale page here? Other forums (for other hobbies) I participate in have this feature.

> My kid's bike is brakeless at this point. We tried to fit the old brakes from a batch of parts we bought but its not working out. Maybe new for brakes is the way to go, any reasonable priced suggestions?

> I have figured out that I need to pick up a good set of American made lifetime warranty allen wrenches and possibly a set of metric sockets. Any other tool suggestions?

> Any idea what size bolt goes in the crank to hold the sprocket? Fit cranks, if it makes a difference.

that's all for now, thanks for any insights

No rating system. Stick to guys that are on the legit list or have multiple refs to prevent being scammed. Try the odyssey springfield kit Affordable but work very well. I've had springfields so I would know. Get a nice chainbreaker. It will save alot of headaches. Try the shadow or park tools chainbreakers. The bolt is 10 x 1.5mm.

A rubber mallet is always a good thing to have around when working on a bike.

Are you sure the frame has brake mounts? If so, then Springfields are the way to go!

There are A LOT of great tools in the TOOLS section on DansComp.com They have a really good ratchet set that I would recommend purchasing.

I do not know the size of the bolt but maybe you could Google it? Or look it up on Fit's website? They might know.

I see bars referred to as 'cut' and 'uncut', does this mean cutting the ends off to make them less wide - and lighter I guess?

Not really, cutting bars just makes them less wide, doesn't really affect weight.

I dont know how much, but wouldnt that change they way your steering feels? wider would be less effort than skinny. but maybe an inch or two doesnt make that difference?

Doesn't make that much of a difference. People just cut it because they might prefer holding the bars closer together so there's no point of the excess length. It's also has something to do with clearance for barspins and x ups and what not.

so only a month in and we are swapping frames. new one is a mirraco blend 2, I am trying to figure out what sealed headset bearing would be appropriate. Pretty sure its a 2007 and the stock headset is labeled as 1 1/8" VP A-74 Aheadset.

we had trouble getting the right bearings for the last frame and I dont want to order several times (again).

Thanks again for all the help so far.

Get the mechanic sti headset. Sti stands for standard to integrated. It has the cups incase the frame is standard headtube which I'm pretty sure it is. And if you ever upgrADE the frame then you can just pop out the bearings and slap em in an integrated headtube for a smooth swap.

Great choice on the mechanic sti headset Tamdon.. I would check and see if the bb are loose or sealed.. 2007 blend 2 were loose bb. 2008 & 2009 blend 2 are integrated bb. Also there was a recall on the forks.if you are running the stock fork check for cracks at the bottom of stem tubing

Thanks guys. the existing bearings are loose, the guy that sold me the frame kept saying it was a 2009, but all the pieces he gave were what was standard on a 2007. I did know that going in so not a big deal. I just got a set of the mechanic sti for the wtp frame we have, so I will just use it on the new frame. We werent planning on using those forks, but a neighbor kids wants them so we will check them out for cracks.

I appreciate the info.
