So i'm stuck between a choice. I have Guerra frame, fork, and switch between animal and guerra bars. Everything else is Animal, and Odyssey wheels. Should I get Animal Cranks, and get the Thunderbolts so I have something to go with the Odyssey wheels? I love Animal, and I love the cranks, but I also love Odyssey and I feel something needs to go with the wheels. Also, I want 170's. So I don't know.

Tbh, you sound stupid for trying to "match companies" on your bike.
But theyre both great cranks, I would probably go with the Akimbos personally. Im not a fan of the ody cranks even though theyre arguably the best on the market.

More good ones are - Profile, Fit, Eclat, Bone Deth, Primo, etc.

Cant go wrong with primos, odyssey or eclats, the animals are cool too but im not so hot on 48spline.

(Saying that though my tibias are holding up pretty well for now. )

Wich guerra frame do you ride if you ride the martyr you have a Maltese bb and can only run 19 mm spindles

|

11/25/2013 8:38 AM

Honestly my friend has the thunderbolts and they are a very solid crank. Id strongly suggest getting those. And for the record. You don't sound stupid for matching companies. Even pros do that.

Matching parts from companies doesn't sound stupid at all ......I've done that with profile and doing that next on my s&m frame......going all s&m all demolition

|

11/25/2013 8:47 AM

I think its stupid. Cause quite honestly, alot of companies have that "shit part" that sucks ass, but the rest of their line is solid. I like to use ody as an example because theyre hubs honestly suck (not Gsport).
But in this case, im only saying it because he should choose whichever he likes better, instead of getting the other one just so he has matching companies. Lol. But thats just me.

Well, I mean they both match. I have OCD when it comes to certain stuff, and this is one of them.

The only thing I like to match is my wheels or frame forks and bars if I like all three made by one company.

And if the cranks really do go on sale i'll probably end up actually buying this right away then instead of waiting.

I remember you saying you were really light on your bike and not a big dude at all so I think you could ride the Akimbo's no problems (not that they're terrible cranks or anything) but if you do ride street all day I feel like any splined crank I have ever ridden has developed flex and wiggle sooner than I anticipated.

@ 150+ for cranks I would like to get at least two solid years of beating the pure fuck out of them, all day, on a regular basis, 7 days a week, and Odysseys have never failed and if they do you you have a lifetime warranty to fall back on.

Also if you do just want to change cranks you'll never have a problem selling Thunderbolts haha

demolition revolts are great. but id go with the animals.

Guess I am stupid...

...my frame fork and bars are all Federal. My rims, hubs, hub guards, tires, sprocket, and stem are Demolition. The variables are my brake stuff, my seat, my grips and my seat post.

I intentionally got the things I got due to quality and the name brands.

I think the point of my comment is being misunderstood. Im not saying that youre stupid for having matching companies on your bike
Im saying its stupid to say "im not gonna buy those (Ex. Bone Deth) bars because I dont have any other (Bone Deth) parts on my bike" or in this case "im gonna get a set of odyssey cranks over the cranks I would rather have in order to have something of the same company to match my.wheels"

For me, strength plays the largest roll in the parts I buy, right next to geo where applicable. I'm honestly not a big fan of the way the Odyssey cranks go together with the wedge cluster, but it seems to work great for so many people. I do prefer my cranks to be l/r compatable, only because I may decide to switch. The cranks I have been running for two years are awesome. The most solid cranks I've ever ridden. Albes has them for 149 I think it is, and they started at 189 I believe.

If I were going for the Odysseys though, at half the normal price, I would scuff them and respray them whatever color I wanted in a heartbeat over paying another $60 or 70 for black ones. $70 is halfway to another fork, a set of tires, or whatever.

I'd get the thunderbolts, I've messed around with akimbos before on friends bikes, and i own thunderbolts.

What thunderbolts win over akimbos are: strength (arguable, but 41 thermal is proven), it's easy to maintain (2pc & wedge system make it really simple yet effective, lifetime warranty, and they're lighter.

Get what YOU WANT OP. Not what matches brands (unless it is something you want)

I'd rather pick a part by its quality rather than matching with other bike parts...
Still I would go Thunderbolts, tried both and Odysseys are just amazing.
