Have to tried using a metal hammer? usually thwy work better then a rubber mallet but you have to cover the cranks with like a towel or something so you dont fuck them up

grease the threads better next time? use a crank puller?

Its important that you use a crank tool to install the cranks. Tapping them on can push them on unevenly and ruin the splines, making them impossible to take off. Also grease you're spindle atleast once a month, eventually that grease can lose its ability to prevent bonding between the spindle and crank.

This. I had some kid come into the bike shop cause his weren't pressed on right & caused them to look bent, or on the wrong spline, but it was really just overlapping splines

Spray some WD40 down in there & let it sit over night or for a few hours AT LEAST. Let it work it's way into the splines & then try beating it out again.
