I got a Cult Match Freecoaster from a friend. When I held it in my hand it seemed to work just fine. I laced it up with a new rim and spokes then put it on my bike. Now when I put my foot down to go it has 3 full cranks of slack, sometimes more, sometimes its a quarter crank. If I stop pedaling, then right away go to pedal, its a quarter crank. But if I just ride around, going down hill, moving my cranks involuntary, when i go to pedal uphill, its around 3 full cranks then it engages. I was told to buy a ball and spring kit but I thought id see what other people think. Hopefully there is a simple solution!

Sounds like the clutch is slipping or something is wrong with the engagement.

Pull it a part (take pictures as you do) and have s look and make sure everything is right inside the hub

I'm a punk bmxer, I can't do it well so I do it loud.

Try making sure there isn't grease on the actual balls, I think that would cause the clutch to not grab very well
