So I warrantied my first berzerker in April for 200 bucks cuz I could only get crash replacement. It's now September and my second one took a shit on me. It bent right above the welds on both the chainstay and seatstay on the right side. So i sent it in. I call FBM and they go on telling me it's my fault and they can't do anything but weld a new dropout on. IT'S NOT THE DROPOUT YOU FUCKS, it's the fucking tubes, I'm not giving you 25 bucks to weld on a dropout that isn't even the problem.

TLDR, I'm done with fbm

Well considering i do work, pay for my car payment, an pay my car insurance, it'd be nice to get a warranty on a frame that lasted 4 fucking months. I'm not even a heavy hitter. I do stupid little baby tricks.

Yeah bro, my friend did a 13 foot drop to flat, then his 13 year old cousin tried to 180 a small 4 set, and snapped the headtube, bent the dropouts and destroyed the bottom tube.

^ absolutely correct. you can't expect a stock bike to hold up for sean burns style riding. it's just not meant for crazy stuff like that. well, same with fbm, bonedeth, etc frames. you buy them if you're gonna ride em like they were intended for

Hey Jake,
It is a bummer to see that you came on a forum to bash FBM instead of calling up to resolve your problem. To get things straight your right drop out is bent, not your chain or seat stays, which can be repaired by putting a new drop out on the frame. The way your drop out is bent is impossible if you have a wheel bolted down, The only way i see a drop out bending like this is if your axle broke or if you caught a upright on a rail and tore one side of your wheel out of the drop out. Or maybe you tried to spread the frame, to fit the two hub guards as you said on the phone. What ever the cause it is not a manufacturing defect, it is a result of what ever you did. The cost to repair the frame and put a new drop out on would be 25 dollars plus the shipping cost, and the offer still stands. Just give us me a call when your ready 607-729-2803.

That's some awsome service right there ^

|

9/19/2013 11:27 AM

I dunno. If the wheel were installed improperly, ok fine. FBM is/would be in the right.
But how is a frame that can take a 10ft drop not gonna have enough flex to spread the stays a bit? Sounds like a massive design flaw to me, or inferior quality materials/welding.
Food for thought...

Hey Boston,
I didn't say the wheel was not installed properly, he obviously knows how to put the wheel on correctly because he rode if for a few months. It's pretty pretentious of you to assume its a design flay or inferior quality materials/welding with out seeing it. What we are talking about here is a bent drop out, a piece of 3/16 thick heat treated chromoly. Not some magical piece of mystery metal . Food for though my ass, here is a picture of it:
Photo

the right drop out is bent out and is not parallel to the left. A drop out doesn't bend like this from normal riding or 10ft drops etc.... Something else happened to cause this

Photo

The Chain stay cap is also dented and paint is cracked an flaking in that area from some form of stress it was put through.

Like i said before, If Jake wants to discuss this with me, he can contact me at FBM. This isn't anything more then a simply warranty issue that should be between FBM and the customer, I handle all the warranty at fbm and do my best to take care anything that comes up.

I don't come on this site often anymore. I still ride but these forum boards depress the shit out of me and give me the impression that all the stereotypes of bmxers and skaters are true. I'd like to think otherwise, anywayz I saw this thread and I thought it was pretty interesting so I've been checking in to see the progress.

First of all, I would like to admire the fact that an FBM employee came on here and set things straight. Now-a-days companies don't seem to give a shit about customer service and all they want is an opportunity to double their profits. They ship their products over to china to get manufactured over there because it's cheaper and they get to put more money in their pockets. Correct me if I'm mistaken but I believe FBM and S&M are a few of the bmx companies that actually get their products manufactured in the U.S. Maybe their isn't much of a difference for getting something manufactured in the U.S. than getting it manufactured in China but the customer service speaks for itself. I much rather have my frame built by an employee who cares about the reputation of his company and knows what BMX is about, than an employee who simply builds frames because it pays for the food, (not to mention they're probably getting ripped off.) (China that is, since most of our stuff comes from over there). As a matter of fact my stock bike is getting pretty beat up and I was thinking of buying my own custom bike I was thinking some Bone Deth frame since Sean Burns does some gnarly shit.... Although right now I seem to be leaning on buying an FBM frame. Reason being is I've heard their frames have a great reputation on holding up to lots of shit you throw at them, not to mention most if not all their frames are made in the U.S. by people who care about their jobs, and last but not least..... Their customer service seems great. Let's be honest, John@fbmbmx said, " The cost to repair the frame and put a new drop out on would be 25 dollars plus the shipping cost, and the offer still stands. Just give us me a call when your ready 607-729-2803." They'd still be willing to service you after you told them to go fuck themselves... That's professionalism at it's FINEST!!

FBM ++++Rep

Too long didn't read:
Fbm did a great job, OP you should eat your pride and send your stuff in for a repair. I forgot to mention that all frames break just because a frame is made in the U.S. or a company has a great reputation doesn't mean that a frame won't break. If you guys want to get technical, every type of metal fatigues over time. Metal Fatigue, search it up learn something.

If the FBM employee is still reading.... I always wondered what does FBM stand for? Someone told me it was Fat Bald Men... It's not Fat bald Men is it..... =)

Now look, I'll admit I look pretty silly right now. But the photos also lack to show where the bend is. It's not the dropout. I respect he came on here and tried to sort It out, and I was a little but hurt at the time. I'll call them again to see what's up, but I just don't understand how this sort of thing could happen. Tightening a wheel isn't rocket science.

AAv, it originally stood for Fat Bald Men. I've read/seen shit from Crandall that says it also stands for Fire Beer Mayhem, Fire Beer, Mousetraps, Faith Bretheren Ministries (see Road Fools 10) Friendship Brotherhood Memories. It'sa lot of things. But I still have a set of Big Apes that say Fat Bald Men across them. Sorry to steal anything you were going to say Jon, I have an ungodly obsession with FBM, I'm sort of a huge Fanboi.

Even if theyre wrong, when you send in the frame, I would only imagine they would see the real problem and fix it, not just look at it and go "oh well just put new dropouts on it any way"

But anyway, thing that really blows my mind is that they'd weld a new dropout on the frame? That's crazy lol. If I ever broke my drop out I would never think "its fine ill just get a new one welded on".
Like..
"Hey how old is your frame?"
3years but the dropouts are only 4months

That's wicked though lmao
