There is a slight chance that if you put your wheel on "backwards" that the total angular momentum of the system consisting of you and your bike will be backwards, which will cause you to spontaneously back-flip off everything.

Anyways:
Front wheels can go either way because the bearings can spin either way. Front tire's you'll feel a slight difference with though ;P
