Hey, fairly new to biking in general, I started at the trails not to long ago. I can't jump for the life of me. I've tried to balls up and go full speed on table tops, but everytime I get even an inch of air landing puts my bike out of control. I watched around and noticed that when I hit jumps I'm leaning forward. I've tried correcting this, but I can't lean backwards. I currently have S&M XLT bars which are apparently 8.5" rise or somewhere around there. I'm 6'4 and suspect thats why I can't lean back. I'm thinking of buying Perfect 10's, what other things can I do to improve jumping and the feeling of the bike for me? Frame is S&M ATF.

TL;DR What can I do to adjust my bmx for a 6'4 rider?

Try expirement with a different stem. What do u have a top load or front load stem? I like using different size spacers under stem to raise and lower the height. To find the sweet spot in my hops and control of bike in air and landing. What size frame are u using? I had a 20" diamondback bike for the longest time, and it was real funky for me jumping I just recently bought a 21" top tube frame and it changed riding for me big time. Feels like a whole different bike

I have a top load. I've built my own bmx before out of shit parts I found, and spacers were life savers but at the same time using the wrong ones fucked me over. Should I be using certain spacers?

I don't know, I just make sure the fork tube doesn't stick out further than the stem. Other than that it's personal preference on stem height

Will try, any other suggestions to adjust on my bike even if it's new parts?

I know bar placement has a big factor on the feeling of a bike. Maybe try changing the stance of your bars, more forward or more back pull? Th further the bars are towards me, makes it easier for me to jump onto sidewalks. But then you have your knees hitting the bars and I can't stand that so I have mine setup so they are in line with the rake of the fork.

Mine are parallel, I'll screw around with it thanks.

Probably need a bigger frame honestly. Your height should have somewhere around a 21.25-21.5tt from what I've seen. Bigger bars would probably help you as well. If you have XLT Slams, they're only 8", which feels too small for me as well and I'm only 5' 10". Lol. (I had Slams on my last bike that got jacked, now have Shadow 13B's which are the same geometry) I also ran my bars straight up until recently, and now they're basically lined up with the fork just because I wanted to try to get used to it. I'm on a 20.75tt frame with 74.5ht, but as of next week I'm going up to a 21.125tt with a 75ht, so hopefully that'll make a huge difference since I still feel cramped and super slouched over while riding. But I know I'm gonna need bigger bars at some point tho or at least a top load stem again.

How about don't be such a stiff squirrel? Not everyone can grasp the fluid motion needed to make it thru a trail line and that's why riding on foot high ledges and flat rails is so popular. It's not your bike setup, . It's something you are not doing correctly with your body.

I don't know about buying an entirely new frame, can't afford at the moment. I will definitely get perfect 10s though Thanks!

Thats good to hear, I just need more practice instead of purchasing new things. Thanks, any suggestion on how to be more leaned back? My bike nose dives when I come off a jump and the transfer off the top is more horizontal then vertical.

I'm 6'6 and ride a 21.25" frame fairly comfortably with 8.75" bars and a 22mm topload. I"m getting a waaaaay bigger frame though just because I like riding limozines.

100% right. Couldn't have said it better myself. Trails are an art and you can't blame your bike. I've seen dudes on walmart bikes blast trails just for shits. OP just keep riding and you'll get the feeling for it.
