Currently riding 25/9 but I wouldn't mind 27 or 28/9

|

1/30/2014 7:51 PM

i run 28-9 and feels good

|

1/30/2014 8:04 PM

Thanks, I'll probably go for 27 or 28 then

|

I've ran 22/10 for a while when I first started off and went to 26/9 for a while and then went and stayed at 25/9 to this very day. I would love to ride a 26t sprocket again. Another problem is clearance on grinding surfaces and I also run 4 pegs so I really want to stick to a guard sprocket..

28-9 is my favourite. I find 30-9 a little bit heavy, but I know guys who run it and like it.

I run 28-9.. i love it but sometimes i wish i had 25 9 simply for the extra little bit of clearance...Ive got a guard sprocket so the guard slams sometimes on rails...

25/9 for me. I tried 28/9 for a bit but I never really cared for it.

30/10 at the moment. . 28/10 topped out too quickly for me, but it was good for riding slowly with my kids, and when I lived in an area where I rode up more hills.

Number of teeth is irrelevant beyond the ratio...
Only thing that matters is clearance.
Gear ratio is a personal preference, but unless you run a guard sprocket, I'd stay under 28t.

28+ is generally considered park or trails, because you accelerate faster in smaller run ups. I know switching from 23/9 to 28/9 made a huge difference in hitting the box at my local park I only have like 20ft of runway before dropping in to hit it, so being able to make the most out of that little room is awesome. I also find it makes fakies easier, it backpedals slightly slower.

I use 28/9 for mostly street riding though and it feels great. Its all personal preference though. On street you USUALLY have all the runway in the world (except docks and stuff) so its not exactly necessary but it can help or (as kris said) get in the way.

i rode 28 for street when i had my bike. its just a harder ratio, your top speed is higher but it doesn't accelerate as fast. I got used to mine and could ride it like a 25 tooth basically. If you grind might be a bad idea if your slamming a lot as they said.
