So, I am brand new to riding. I just bought a Mongoose Mode 900 (yes, mongoose), and I want to get some Duo High Street Tires for it. As you all may know, the stock tires on the Mode 900 are absolute crap. I picked up the Mode 900 because it is the cheapest bike I can afford, full chromoly, 3 piece cranks, double walled rims. All for $200? And as a beginner? Pshh, why the fuck not.

Anyway, I have a huge problem with figuring out the dimensions of my rim/tubing/tire in order to buy the right kind. I wanted to get a fat size because I have been reading that fat tires provide lots of friction and impact absorption, but on the downside, I hear that most fat tires only fit on the front and not the back, (also for the carving.) I am going to post two links, one for the bike and the other for the tire. Can anyone please help me choose a right kind of tire for this bike? I am really interested in a fat tire for this bike. My little Lil' Wayne/President Bush created baby. Thanks so much.

I would get the Chase hark tires. People say they are the most bang for buck.

Measure the with of the rear and front tire clearance to see if they will fit. (>2.4 inches)

Since its a real bmx bike, anything on Dans/Albes that is not 18 or 24 inches will fit your wheel.
for the tube, Just get any 20 inch tube.

Thanks for the response and suggestion! I'll look up reviews on those tires. But I have three questions about what you said...

1. "Clearance" is the distance in-between the fork, correct? Where the wheel goes? Or the actual distance of the tire itself?

2. What do you mean by anything that isn't 18 or 24 inches will fit? As in, any tire in-between 18 and 24 inches will fit my bike? I.E, 19,20,21,22,23?

3. Will the stock tube that comes with my bike not be big enough? Will I have to get the same exact same sized tube as the tire I get? I am confused on that....

Sorry for the whole noob explosion.

Clearance is the space between the tire and frame and tire and fork so it doesnt rub.

Anything that's not labeled 18 or 24 is usually 20. So anything 20 inch will fit.

The stock tube will be fine it's 20 inches. People also used to use 18" tubes to lighten things up.

I have a set of night hawks in 2.20. I love them. I'm not a huge fan of folding tires they seem to be lighter and thinner but wear out significantly quicker. I was kicking around the idea of putting a folding chase hawk (for rotational acceleration) on my rear and keeping it traditional up front. I decided against it. These tires hold up quite well.

I had a $1 18 inch in front back then just for shits and giggles and it lasted longer than any front tube I've had since then, never noticed the weight part though I expected it but didn't feel anything other than a stiffer rim
