Every time I see a post from SecretBMX I can't help but think about how influential a group of four guys from the same town changed the face of bmx freestyle.

The Plywood Hoods started putting out videos in 1988 and each one was better than the last.

Here is a section from the last video they put out which was a compilation from videos past....

Sweet vid...Terrible clothes lol

I used to have a set of chrome 6pc bars (like in the vid) on a bike with a fluro yellow frame, had that bike from 1995 to 1999, loved that thing.

Freestyle is the answer to everything --
a fresh way to approach a dull or a
dangerous thing.
to do a dull thing with style
is preferable to doing a dangerous thing
without it.

such an awesome video. first time I saw it it blew my mind haha. I started in late 2006 but only saw that at some point in early 2012 and it was just crazy to see what kind of tricks were done back then.

My friend's dad said he rode with them sometimes too back when he did flatland

the footage in that video is from before bikes got heavy. early 1990's or so. Mark Eaton is riding a 1980's GT frame in most of that video.

Bikes didn't get heavy until mid 90's.

Kevin Jones took flatland to another level. He paved the way for what it is today.

Thanks, pnj! That's always been one of my favorite Pete Augustin pics.

It's been 20+ years since I've held a pair of Q bars so I can't recall anything about their specs or how they felt. Even if I had a spec sheet in front of me I don't think it would make any difference. Although I loved my Q's, they were a poorly assembled product. I find it hard to believe that any particular tolerances were maintained from from one set of bars to the next. The ones that I owned were noticeably crooked just by looking at them. My buddy also had a pair and, although his were straighter than mine, they were still far from perfect. This thread can confirm what I'm saying.

This guy has a pretty good writeup on the various revisions made to the bars over the course of their production.
