it blows cuz i usually cant ride for a day or 2 afterwards. It rained yesterday, but like today i basically just rode the 6ft quarter to flybox in the middle and then left to the small 4 ft quarter w/ sub box, it was wet but still rideable. i used to have runway boards going from the flybox to the 12 ft quarter, but i got tired of having to constantly re-organize all 20+ boards, so now we just keep it groomed.

40 minute drive.

it's a been a work in progress, 1.5 years. But if we had all the wood and all the ideas at once, we could probably pull it off in less than 2 weeks. Every ramp usually takes the better part of the day, and the 12 ft quarter and flybox/hip/roller/roller step up landing took awhile because we modified it like 8 times.

Damn, aren't you like a construction worker or something like that? That's why your all beast at building this shit haha. I wanna build a mini in my backyard but I have no idea how.

|

FI

6/10/2009 8:45 PM

Yea, but you dont learn this stuff working in construction, other than the bracing techniques. What you do need is all the correct tools.Having construction background is helpful, but when it came to building a transistion ramp i had to research how do draw and cut the transistion. It's actually quite simple.

Laying out all the frame work is just like laying out a frame for a deck, the transistions take the longest to make

Oh i see. and bending the wood? How the hell do i do that

|

FI

6/10/2009 8:59 PM

Lay the grain of the wood horizontal so that it bends with the tranny better. Like a full 4ft by 8ft sheet, you would lay it horizontal, the grain normally runs the longest lenghth of the sheet.
Depending on how mellow the transistion is will determine the thickness of the sheets i use. If the tranny is tight, i use 2 layers of 5/16th's and if it's mellow i use 1 layer of 1/2".

If the wood doesnt bend good enough and starts to crack, soak it with water. If it still isnt good enough, cut 1/8" grooves evenly down the backside of the plywood sheet. If the tranny is real tight, cut the grooves like an inch or 2 apart, if mellow 3 to 4 inches will suffice.

Yeah I thought steam would help but where the hell am I gonna get enough to get a whole sheet of plywood soaked.

EisManX did you ever have a part in an aspire video? That setup looks kinda familiar...I suppose not based on the time frame...but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

no, i had some of the guys from Long Island bike shop out here. I dont know if they have put up the videos yet, but that's probably the only footage you'll see from out here. There's a few guys from Greenville that have rode out here, and Scott Gould rode here, he used to ride for Eastern, a few of the Eastern employees have rode here also. Im sure there will be more to come. A few guys said that it's the biggest backyard spot in NC, except for a few Greenville setups, but they said that they dont count cuz it's Greenville, lol

Do you know a guy named jesse from Huntersville? I rode with him when I was down there last month. Cool guy. I can't recall his last name though... I suppose if you are close to greenville, probably not though...
