Find it hard to commit to bmx

Ever since I broke my knee and broke my ligaments in my knee 5 months ago i cant seem to commit to riding now. I stared riding last month even though i wasnt supposed to for another month or two.. but ever since i come back i cant commit to a trick at all.. i just think about injuring myself again. I just sit at the park talking all the time now like a f***ing idiot. Its like ive injured myself then became a total pussy. Like what would you do if you was me to help to commit?

Hey just start from the bottom again. what do you ride. street, trails or park. if park you can start with just flowing around then once you get the feel for it start going higher and faster then bring yourself to make some tricks happen. this will help you with confidence and you won't look like a pussie

Start small and build confidence.

I broke my leg three weeks ago and am dealing with the same thing. Step 1: build confidence in the leg, step 2: build confidence in the bike control.

I've had an operation on my shoulder 8 years ago & it was never right. I was having the same problems as you. A few months back i found a 6 stair, No biggy right? Well i straight jumped it, then 3'd it & landed a little squiffy & looped out, that was in January. The pain got worse & worse & worse, i was seeing a couple of different doctors until last month i changed to one Doctor to sort my shoulder out. I went for an X-Ray & i have a 1/4" Sublax. I am going to need surgery to fix it. I know this doesn't really install confidence in you for the future haha. But once I've had the Surgery & done all the Rehab i will be back on my bike. I think tbh after an injury like yours you are gunna have to take it easy for a little a while as a couple of people have said, take it slow. try smaller things, test your knees. Also i would see about getting some of those mahussive knee supports you see a few pros with them that have had surgeries too.

The best thing I would do in your case would be buy pads and a helmet.

It will give you more confidence

Hop Tricks.. 180s, 360s, Fakies, Bars - I would stay away from Whips, could fuck with your legs if you mess up!

Grinds.. Crooks, Smiths, Feebles, Luc-Es, Un-Luc-Es, Crank Arms, Even work on Oppo Pegs Tricks if you have 4 Pegs.

Some more Flatland Orientated Tricks.. Hang 5s, Hang 10s, Nose Manuals, Whiplashes, Even Manual Lines.

There are a lot of possibilities that you probably wouldn't have even thought about! I know some of those tricks are fucking frustrating though haha. laughing

broke my wrist, had surgery, same shit. couldnt wait to get back riding. there was pain, there will always be crashes, but just do whatever youre comfortable doing on a bike and enjoy yourself. throwing big tricks is cool and progressing is always motivation, but riding should be about fun, first and foremost. without that, its just like anything else, pointless. thats how i keep myself on a bike. that and just wrap your knees up, pads, support, or whatever. youll need your knees later in life.

Some days, you will be tired and all but just know that after a real good sesh, you'll be done in. Good rest and good eating habits are good. Not like me where I go to bed at night at like almost 1 every night and wake up at 12 the latest to eat brunch. I have bad eating habits too. Too much juice, bacon, fats, grease, you name it. I feel like crap some days and can't even do the most basic stuff.

one thing that you should make sure you do. wear some pads, even if it is just knee pads, which I only wear and a helmet, two things that you will need if you want to keep on going

You have to fucking want it more than ever now that youve been injured. shit's scary, and only truly wanting it that bad will get you back to where you were. hang out with riders or even skaters that get you stoked. listen to music that gets you pumped. you want to focus on the drive to perform, not at the memory of injury.

Fuck i sound like one of those stupid fucking work-out motivational speaker trainer people.

Start small and work your way back up.

That's what I did when I wrecked my shoulder and apparently fractured 3 vertebrae in 04.

Same with my knee last year.

And my ankle in 07.

And my lower back in '10.
