Anyone else have trouble with this stem? When I got it around five or six months ago it was ok. But the clamping sucked ass on the steer tube. So I didn't want to stretch it, but then it would slip every session. So I gave it a bit more, more slipping, more torque, and it kept going. So it's pinched now, and I think my steer tube is ovalized too. It's slipping bad now. Would the ovalized steer tube affect the new stem/cause stretching in the new stem? Since I imagine you would have to tighten it down more to accommodate to the slight oval shape.

Most likely stem is the problem, every Fly stem I've had has pinched very easily. Only time I've seen a stem crush/ovalize something was with a Elementary stem crushing my handlebars.

If your steer tube is ovalized, it could become a pain in the ace to install the new one, and COULD cause some trouble with the new one, and COULD cause the new one to ovalize as well.

I would make sure it is ovalized (grab a buddys stem for a minute or a headset spacer that is not on the bike already) hit up Fit and let them know that the stem slippage caused your fork to be damaged. Maybe they'll help you out.

I installed it under the direction of a bike mechanic at a public bike shop. He checked it.

Let's be honest here, it's pretty hard to install a stem wrong. Sure you can tighten bolts too much or the wrong order, but that's really it.

I ovalized my forks too and new stems need to be hamered in/out.

Mine has been good over a year now. Did you make sure there was no grease on your steer tube before putting the stem on? Now that your steer tube is ovalized you might have to get a new fork.

Damn. Well. Sounds like either it pinches pretty bad or is a good stem. Time to save for some Widemouth 2's, R32's, or Octaves. And a Redneck or Hawk 02 also. Thanks guys.

Mines slightly pinched in the back back its because i tend to over tighten my bolts. almost every stem i've owned has pinched besides my SXTN. Never ovalized my steerer tube or slipped on me.
