Frame TT size too big for me?

I'm roughly 5'2" (yes, I know) and my friend is trying to sell me a real good conditioned S&M ATF frame for $160, but it has a 21" TT. I was wondering if that is too long. The rest of the geo looks okay to be honest and in my opinion, half an inch isn't too bad, is it? I usually run stems around 48-50mm reach at the most if that helps. Bars are 8.25" rise with about 15mm of spacers and 32mm fork offset. Someone give me an honest opinion. I really plan on getting this soon. It's in raw and I have no idea if it's bare metal or clearcoated so if someone could tell me that, that'd be great too.

I recon that would be abit too long for you. Give it a ride and decide for yourself

I am 5'7 and I had a 21" TT for a while. During that time I was probably between 5'2 and 5'6. I didn't like it too much. It was difficult to spin but that was back when I was really really bad.

It's definitely too long. Although it's one of my favorite frames, I don't think you would really enjoy it too much because it would just be too big.

They DO make the ATF in 20.25" which I bet you would really like if you could find one.

Now hang on, 20.25 seems a little small! I'm sure he could manage but I have a friend who's probably 5'2 or 5'3 who has a 20.5 TT and it's PERFECT for him. wouldn't go any lower than 20.5 if I were you, isnowy. Haha those are just my thoughts, I'm not trying to bash anybodies idea here.

Eh i rode a 21"tt with over 14" of cs for over a year. I was from 5'5" to 5'8" last time i ran it. It just feels bad to me to have a frame that big, then again it might just be the cs on that frame.

I feel like the backend length means more than top tube length. I jumped on my friends 21 which has a 13.4 cs and it was pretty similar compared to my 20.6 (12.8 cs) wza to hop. When I tried riding my old mutiny 21" frame which has a 14" backend I literally couldnt hop at all. I did a feeble on a inch high ledge and couldnt even hop out of it

Get a 20.5, I have a 20.75 and im 5'6, it feels good, but my next frame will be a 20.5

|

2/20/2014 7:48 PM

its all just personal preference .i am 5'10 and my 21 toptube was to big so i got a 20.5 and its is perfect.

And then again, I really want it because I've always wanted a legit frame and this is a killer deal. I hope if I do ever get it, the TT doesn't throw me off. If the TT size changes, what else from the whole geo of the frame changes along with it?

Albe's has the 20.25" Fit Wifi on sale for $176.36 after applying a discount. It would probably be more fun and more condusive to learning to ride a frame that possesses a geometry that suits you than it would be to ride a frame that doesn't, regardless of the quality of the frame.

|

2/21/2014 5:44 AM

Lol its all personal preference! Trey jones was running a 21 inch frame while he was 5 2 and i am 6 foot and run 20.5 and think 21 is too big for me lol... its alll personal preference.

it wasnt actually a inch high, i was exaggerating to make a point. in reality it was prob wheel height, but for someone whos used to grinding stuff close to bar height, it seems like a inch high

Pretty much everyone here said not to do it... so you're right you should probably get it.

Hahaha.

Why don't you just find someone you know who has a 21" frame and try it out first? I mean it won't be exact but should give you an idea of what we are talking about.
