Seems like front brakes are starting to gain popularity. Slowly but surly they are making themselves more seen. So here's a few questions about your opinions on them. I'm looking forward to hearing your guy's thoughts.

1.Do you like them?

2. Do you like watching them, either in edits or in person?

3. Would you ride them?

4.Do you think they will be one of the hot/big trends in the near future?

5. If they do trend, do you think it will include rear brakes? or be fronts only?

I'd be the first to say I wouldn't mind front and rear brakes for trails. I don't really watch edits so I can't comment on that.yea I would ride them for trails and maybe park. I doubt front brakes will surpass the brakeless trend because most of these kids won't bother with them because of either the price or because they are to stupid to understand them.

1. yes I like front brakes. Great for flatland fun.

2. I don't mind watching bikes with front brakes in edits or person, but I prefer the clean look of brakeless. (even though it is kind of silly and dangerous to ride brakeless.)

Also, I prefer the clean look of just the rear brake with no gyro more than the pair of both front and back together..

3. probably not.

4. yes, history repeats itself

5. rear and front. Riding front only is just as dangerous as riding brakeless IMO.

I ride brakeless now, I wish i had at least a rear brake. Too many close calls. EDIT: Not to mention how many shoes have died due to riding brakeless.

nothing makes you feel more alive than almost slamming into a wall and barely avoiding it

1.Do you like them? YEP

2. Do you like watching them, either in edits or in person? YEP

3. Would you ride them? YEP and I do sometimes

4.Do you think they will be one of the hot/big trends in the near future? Maybe

5. If they do trend, do you think it will include rear brakes? or be fronts only? I think fronts only first, then both.

1.Do you like them?
Hell yeah, they're so sick, makes it really unique when someone has them and i know for a fact i could have a blast with them.

2. Do you like watching them, either in edits or in person?
Of course! Who doesn't? Squares. Thats who.

3. Would you ride them?
If i had the cash, i'd probably go for it, but i don't know about commitment at all because i have never ridden them.

4.Do you think they will be one of the hot/big trends in the near future?
Only among park rats really. Like i could see most of them tossing on a pair. For street, not really. People are too hooked on brakeless to care.

5. If they do trend, do you think it will include rear brakes? or be fronts only?
Probably both tbh. Depends really. I doubt it'll be as whacky as gum tires became or something, but we will probably see an influx in like the next few years, no doubt. If not, oh well, but it's their loss. I do think more and more are trying it. The only problem is kids don't wanna fuck around with setting them up really. Its a lot of extra hardware to deal with and can be problematic.

So I've noticed that some of you guys think setting them up could deter people. That's a terrible reason to not try. Evo2s are honestly the simplest front brake set ever. Its nothing more than a barrel adjuster and a knarp. Same with diatech hombres.

I think they are fun but not practical for my riding style. I could see them gaining popularity since everyone seems to love tech.

1 yeah
2 yeah
3 I used to, maybe ill put them back
4 not a big trend but more and more forks are coming with mounts
5 I had front only. But I take my bike apart alot and its a pain to deal with them (for me) I like simple thing

|

people are edging towards tech but 90% of people don't even run a rear brake so i doubt it.

Not me, i have no trouble setting up brakes but more often than not, people complain about brake setups being a pain.

Honestly that is why SO many kids don't have brakes in general. "Too hard to set up". I've been calling those kids idiots for a long time.

Nah but seriously, they're idiots. Brakes are easy. Especially springfields. But all brakes are. Even Hydraulic Disc brakes.

I have never worked on a hydraulic disk brake but I dont think it would take long to figure out. Every u-brake set i've ever had or worked with has been rediculously simple.

You have to have a bleed kit. That's the biggest difference.

But yea, mechanical brakes take about 5 minutes to figure out. I can get a full dual upper and lower cable set with gyro (obviously) set up on my bike inside of 10 minutes, from brakeless to dialed.

10 minutes I'm sure is some type of world speed record.

Yes brakes are not that hard to set up but this is coming from the perspective of someone who is used to working on their bikes and just handling tools in general. Some people do not have any experience with tools, do not have proper tools at their disposal or are just not confident with tackling something like this themselves.

Personally, I used to run just a front brake way back in the day. They are fun for tricks and I liked that I could run just a simple straight cable but still spin my bars,

I do see a few more people rocking front brakes these days but my guess is it won't catch on the way some other trends have as it is mostly older guys rocking the brakes.

1.Do you like them?
- Yes, sometimes

2. Do you like watching them, either in edits or in person?
- Only on flatland edits.

3. Would you ride them?
- Not on my current bike, but if I did build a flatland bike though.

4.Do you think they will be one of the hot/big trends in the near future?
- They'll probably become more common because some people might want to use front brakes for slowing down on a fakie with a freecoaster.

5. If they do trend, do you think it will include rear brakes? or be fronts only?
- I probably wouldn't run front brakes, i ride like 3.5 miles an hour.

1. Nope
2. Nope, they make tricks ugly, nose manual to stall or any nose tricks using front brakes look ugly
3. Definitely nope
4. No, too much effort to set up
5. Rear brakes are cool, but fronts won't ever get in style outside of flat, which is already mostly ditching brakes altogether.

1.Do you like them?
3. Would you ride them?
Fuck yeah ! even if i never realy ride a frontie, i got a few tricks in my head with them, who makes me want to give a try, so much creative stuff to do with it. I think to a nose 540 on a bank (even if we can do this without brake, it's not the same feeling) or a crazy fakie nose manual or more simply how cool it should be to do a footjam without the foot... only by pushing a lever !

2. Do you like watching them, either in edits or in person?
Yes it's really cool and refreshing to watch (Bobbie Alister is a genius) even if I had never see someone with a frontbrake, except kids with wallmart bikes...

4.Do you think they will be one of the hot/big trends in the near future?
Big trend... I won't say that but maybe a little comeback because of curious guys who want to try something new.
There is also a bunch of people who ride with it since years and who'll never get it off.

5. If they do trend, do you think it will include rear brakes? or be fronts only?
It could be various, but whatever if you ride a rear brake or brakeless before put a front one, everyone who tries it do it for the same reason, try new stuff and enjoy it.
Maybe the brakeless riders will add a rear brake, maybe not, the rear brake riders will probably keep it and ride both because but there's so much trick combinations we can do with both brakes.

I love to watch people ride with front breaks, i couldn't see myself with them would because i dont like even just having one brake lever, but i could see them becoming popular again.

Im new to Vital BMX so if im being fucking annoying let me know!

3/22/2015 10:17 PM

1.Do you like them?
I don't mind them, I used to fuckin hate them because before I rode bmx I would just ride a Wal-Goose around and to my friends house and one day I was riding down a grass hill and I did the brilliant thing of pulling the front brake instead of the back brake, and I flew forward onto my arms and ended up breaking my right arm. When I first started riding bmx for real I thought front brakes were so stupid just because of my error.

2. Do you like watching them, either in edits or in person?

I don't mind them, it's refreshing to see and one older guy that rides at the skate park has them and does nose jams on the quarters, they look badass but so scary. Another guy I saw with just front brakes was doing feeble to G-turn with them, I was like what the fuck haha so sick.

3. Would you ride them?
Not personally, just because brakes were never really my style. Who knows though, maybe I'd end up dicking around with them for a day or 2, maybe even a week, but they'd inevitably come off. I like doing random foot jam tricks and foot jams on odd objects when I find them so maybe front brakes would be fun for that.

4.Do you think they will be one of the hot/big trends in the near future?
If a popular pro starts riding them and showing what can be done with them, then of course. If Stevie Churchill came out riding them in an edit, I can almost guarantee they'd blow up.

5. If they do trend, do you think it will include rear brakes? or be fronts only?
Probably just fronts if it's a trend, but who knows, maybe kids will actually learn tricks with them instead of having them just for show, and wanna learn brake stalling tricks like abubacas and such.

|

3/23/2015 2:14 AM

1. I do like them, alot. They are cool af haha
2. Love watching them in edits, refreshing af. In person, its aint that fun to watch kids on asda bikes ride, so no, not in person.
3. I would ride them, but i dont wanna buy a brand new pair of forks and a brake setup when i dont know if i seriously want to ride them.... I will at some point in my life through, i promise you that!
4. I dont think theyll go as big as a 'trend' but theyll get a tad more popular.
5. maybe partially, but not as a whole
