Kink Samurais look good, but they are pretty thin imo. They also slip pretty bad when you're sweating beads.

Longnecks are ...more

Yeah, it works. You have to put as little on as possible though if you don't want to wait a day or 2 for it to dry out.

By that logic, you could dampen the inside of the grip with a little spit for the same effect.

The oil makes it slide on easy and then makes the rubber really stick to the bars. The same thing can be done with WD-40, just WD-40 isn't as thick and it flashes off quicker. I think the olive oil gives a slightly better "bond" though.

Don't use any type of liquid method to put on grips... use the zip tie method and they'll slide right on and you won't have to wait for them to dry... when I got my new bars the other day, I got 4 zip ties, put them inside the grip, then slid the grip on the bar, you just have to twist and pull on the grip and it'll slide on easy and won't take a few hours to days for it to dry... it was SUPER easy...

I don't crash, I do random gravity checks...

That's fine when you don't have to worry about rain too much. The various liquids make a half decent seal, meaning it's a lot harder to get throttle grip.

Hmm... I've never used any sort of lube to get the grips on... only used WD40 to get them off... and I've never had a problem with throttle grip... but I also have bar ends on all the time so when I crash dirt and stuff doesn't get under the grip, bit I've never had a problem with throttle grip, I fell if I just keep the grip clean, after using WD40 to get the grip off, I wash it with soap and water, then use the zip ties and it goes right on, and I never had a problem like that. But j don't ride in the rain either so maybe in that case it may help, idk....

wd40 dries off in about 15 seconds

Awesome! So that hack still works! Good to know! I stopped using it after having not ridden for a number of years & thought it probably wouldn't work the same. Thanx for the info!

Hairspray is the one and will always be!

If I could go a tenth as high as Larry Edgar goes, then I would still be blasting super high.

Ya, i have a can that is in my bmx toolbox.

I need to try the ziptie thing. I have tons of zipties at all times.

If you do the wd40 method, properly, it should be dry in less than 5 minutes. They will feel glued on, because the wd40 displaces moisture, so I think it pulls the rubber a little tighter around the bars. Works perfectly every time.

I use an air compressor to get grips on and off, it works like a charm. As for what grips, I personally love the Animal Jeff kocsis grips. Flanges, large diameter, nice and rubbery and soft. Mike Hoder sig grips and S&M Passero grips are also some favorites of mine.

More likely the kerosine eats away at the rubber and melts it into some sort of bond.

I tried the olive oil method the other day.

Being a college freshman, I don't have a compressor under my bed, wd-40 pollutes, and my zip ties are too short. But I have a kitchen and in every kitchen of every human being there is some olive oil.

I was shocked.

Kept repeating to myself that it was a bad joke and that I would find myself buying some degreaser and having throttle grip forever cauz I couldnt get rid of the oil.

Well- whattdya know?

Trusted the guys on the forum, crossed my fingers, squirted some oil, and WHATDYA KNOW?

The thing is completely STUCK. It happened so fast too. I put on wayy too much, and it had to dry for a small 20 minutes while I assembled other parts on the bike (new frame, getting back into the riding after one year!).

It works. It works.

It blows my mind.

I have to ask a chemist somewhere to explain what the hell is going on. It's a miracle.

It doesn't matter where a train goes. It's decidin' to get on that does.

No chemist needed my friend. The oil is permeating the rubber and causing it to expand and " lock" or " glue" on. No actual glue or weirdness happening other than rubber expansion.

I'm not a pussy so I man up and put them on dry.
