So, I picked up that Fit PK3 bike the other day. Nothing really wrong at all EXCEPT, the "gum" grips are older & if they were just "gum" colored before, they are ACTUALLY gum now. They are gooey & sticky. I don't think there's anything that can be done to save them & that is fine. Just wondering what grips you guys like these days & why.

I like the stranger Quan grips because they rarely slip and look good.

Bsd payleys and kink samurai. Only thing I font like about the grips are the length. Id like them to be able to stretch to the bends.

I had stranger Quan grips in red and they were really good but now I have a pair of black United mothership grips. Good so far

Hoder grips are nice if you like a thicker grip, or have big hands (they also feel great from the start and are made by ODI).
Merritt Cross-Check grips are nice and slim, but can have a slight tackiness to them sometimes.
I have some new Passero grips (also made by ODI) and they seem like a nice in-between of the above, so I'll find out pretty soon.

Odyssey Broc Raifords, best grips out there. They feel like they're worn in straight out of the box, they're very grippy and they last ages.

S&M BTM Hoders
In my experience, this is is the only grip worth money. Made by ODI from the super-soft compound, with a slightly comfier design. Super thick & grippy, 160mm long.
This is the only grip other than Longnecks that have lasted me longer than 2-3 months (Hoders last me about 6-8.) And I've tried quite a few grips.. Primos, Odysseys, Animals, Merritts, BSDs, Cults, Federals, etc... You name it, I've probably tried it and ripped them apart in no time. Hoders4life
My second favorite is Odsy Raifords, they feel incredibly similar but aren't nearly as durable.

The Raifords hold up about the same for me as the Hoders do for you. Shortest time I've had a pair was 5 months and I was on my last set for 11 months until I wore right through them!

I loved the Raifords. Had 3 pairs that all lasted about 3months each. They just can't compare, durability-wise, to the ODI compound though.
I'm also rougher on my grips than anyone else I know. I death grip my bars

I ran a set of ODI's for a full year and didn't wear through them. And I rode plenty. Right now I'm on some GT copies of ODIs that I bought with my Civilians since they were right there. Not bad but theyre still brand new. I tried Bone Deth Burning Rubbers and thought they felt pretty nice even if they're thin.

Odi longnecks. I've got animal Edwin's now, but the angled shroom sections allow my hands to move a bit, and they hold sweat. Back to longnecks next for me

What’s so bad about a gooey sticky grip? Some of us run the odi soft compound grips bc of the sweat problem.
To be honest, you should try them out and see how they feel!

I don't think I explained properly.... these grips are gooey to the point that they are similar to memory foam pillows & when you remove your hand, you need to go wash you hands to remove the remaining goo from your hands. They are degrading to the point that they won't even grip the bars. It's like grabbing damp silly putty.

So cookie cutter.. but ODI's really are the grips of all grips. So boring but it's just the way she goes. I used to like Odyssey Chase Hawks, but they wear in the same manner you're saying with the 'gum' feel.

Most other companies also have thier grips made by odi, such as cult, and pretty much anyone else.

Kink Samurais look good, but they are pretty thin imo. They also slip pretty bad when you're sweating beads.
Longnecks are also killer, but I'm on these Subrosa Genetic grips (extra long, a longneck-ish copy), but they're so thick and comfy.
A small question for installing grips- does that 1 drop of olive oil technique really work?
It doesn't matter where a train goes. It's decidin' to get on that does.

Never heard of the olive oil trick. Back in the day when Oakley & Ame pretty much ruled the grip market, the best trick was to shoot a small blast of WD40 in the grip. They slid right on & a couple seconds later were bonded to the bars. Haven't tried that trick in a long (LONG) while. Not sure it would still work since I am sure the rubber compounds have changed over the years.

Yeah, it works. You have to put as little on as possible though if you don't want to wait a day or 2 for it to dry out.

By that logic, you could dampen the inside of the grip with a little spit for the same effect.
