Gsport Birdcage Review

I'd like to start off saying this is one of the stiffest rims I've rode and it shocked me with how well it stayed true (Better than my Rollcages.)

However, after 3 months of riding, the rear now has multiple dents on the sidewall, multiple spoke holes have stress marks around them, and the welded seam has cracked. This is mostly to do with me being 220lbs and riding rather rough. My front Birdcage is still in great shape.

Overall, i would highly recommend this rim to any lightweight or smooth riders. I have heard a lot about spoke holes pulling out on these, so make sure not to over tighten your spokes if you run one.

Been on mine for like 10 months now, no problems. I'm a sloppy but lightweight rider, though. I love how light they are, and the offset valve hole is super convenient.

I would never recomend the birdcage for anything but trails and flowy park. I have seen a few just completely thrashed from tech street.

I've been riding quite a bit of street, some bigger gaps and rough landings and I've had no problems. But I also have Tree hubs and spokes so that might help.

Probably because you take care of your bike. Most people don't really (around here atleast). But for street it would be better to get a rollcage or ribcage.

I agree for the most part, but I just love lightweight rims haha. I'm willing to put in the extra work to maintain them.

the flatspots and cracked seam sound like low tire pressure and landing flat.

I run 90psi but yes i am terrible about going to flat on hips and such. Landing sideways 180ing up things probably also contributed to it. All in all, im a pretty rough rider. Probably wasn't wise for me to run a 14oz rim.

It helps a little bit if you nose down too, landing front tire first, it kinda looks/feels a little wierd. It makes you use your knees and kind of sucks you into the seat instead of landing fully extended on your rear tire or landing perfectly flat. Atleast it does on a racebike with 17 3/4" chainstay, I'm kinda new to this whole 14" chainstay thing.

I always try to land front tire first in landings (and usually succeed) but going to flat is a whole nother story. And the past few weeks ive had to resort to landing back heavy on basically everything due to torn ligaments in my.wrist and a broken carpal.

I wish oddessy still made hazards, not hazzard lites. I loved thise rims. I'm probably going to build a wheelset with hazard lites I was looking at rollcages but I think I'll go with hazzard lites.

lites are dope as fuck, ive ran a few in my 3 years, and all 4 are still being ridden by riders, super rough riders too, I just noticed the first flatspot in mine thats been thru 3 riders and outlasted like 5 front hubs,

My next set will be either Gsports or Sun rims. I haven't decided. But it will also be a while out.

nah. Aerospaces were designed to hit a price point below the gsport rims. George wrote a post about that a few weeks ago.

It must happen to only a few people, but nobody's ever mentioned how the valve hole on the rim is so offset. This led to me getting about 4-5 consecutive flats before I realized the valve hole of the rim kept on cutting my tube valve stem. I then put tape over the valve and filed down the hole a bit and never had a problem since. I warned my friend who didn't listen to me and coincidentally, the next day, his front and rear Birdcage rims almost simultaneously go flat from his valves being cut by the valve hole of the rim.

Baby powder in your tires. It lets your tube slide around inside the tire and lessens the stress at the beads and stem.

I haven't had a single problem like that in 10 months.
