Well lately I have been really into trying new stuff. I'm ever so close to my goal of learning tail whips. It's almost this itching feeling i get when I'm riding to do them. Along with indian airs and stuff.

I decided since i have about a billion jobs (4) right now and i'm making a lot, whats 50$ to get my bike real light, ya know?

So i went for it. I'm usually really wary of buying things due to lightness, but i'm thinking i will be okay. I got an aluminum axle for my ratchet, threw my Klyte odyssey tires on, and my Moto bars (coming from my Primo Rebars), and i just scored a slim tree ergo so i'm very stoked. Riding a light bike really made it easier for me to stay over them and I think it was a decent thing to do without sacrificing much strength.

So has anyone done this? Just for that one trick altered the bike to make it better?

Also, i'm having trouble with the back foot and catching more than one pedal. When you catch a whip, do you like clamp it or just kind of scoop it towards you and catch them both? I've been trying both and i'm close i just need some help i think. So if anyone has Whip advice, lay it on me!

not bad not bad.

now when you say tailwhip, are you talking a flat ground- footjam whip? or an aired tailwhip? I've been working on the flat ground ones myself before taking it to the air, and i notice that i have to really dial in the point between kicking my bike hard enough to come around, and having it at the right angle to where it wont hit the ground on the half way mark.

I can do foot jam whips rather easily, definitely when my bike is light as well. I usually struggle with them coming around so fast my feet don't keep up and i just mess it up slightly but i can do them right now which i'm happy with.

I'm talking a real tail whip i guess. like go off a jump or hop and land back on it of course.

I have caught pedals and rolled away a few times but it's not really landing it if that makes sense, because i slip right back off. or i fall over. but hopefully i can do it now.

The fourth peg so i could stop fucking up axles and chainstays with pegless switch grinds.

I too have been gravitating towards hop tail whips. They are one of my favorite tricks, and am getting closer and closer to actually landing one and rollin away. I just hope I can get them before school starts ...

Since you ask about catching them, I think that reaching out for the cranks and scooping it under you is more useful when you don't have a lot of air under you and when you need to land it asap. You might catch cranks, but thats better than not catching anything anyway.

For the clamping motion, thats better reserved for when you are sure that you can get the bike under you before you land. Doing one off a curb can help for the bonus air. Stop the spinning with the outer foot and clamp it with the inner.

But thats what I think, I never have been able to actually land one. I'll change to the bunny hop tail whips, doing them off jumps and crashing is starting to take it's toll on my hurt limit.

Hope you land it, mon.

Regarding to the changing parts for better tricks, a long way ago I changed the pedals to metal and the bars a bit higher so that i could bunny hop easier and be more comfortable on the bike. But that is long ago...

PS: What 4 jobs do you have? 4 seems like a lot... Are they part time or sumthink?

It doesn't matter where a train goes. It's decidin' to get on that does.

there's a trick bestwick has that slows his cranks down so they don't move unless he moves them, and that his pedals don't move unless he moves them either, might wanna try and figure that out- i'm pretty sure its a rubber o-ring or something but that might help ya catch easier.

Nahh, the cranks moving doesn't happen really. My chain is always a little tight so it's no problem.

Yeah, i think i just need to reel it in i guess. it's hard but i gotta get these things before school. I am so close it hurts haha

but four jobs, lemme talk you through it.

they're all part time, yes. But my main thing in the week is cutting grass and working on the farm. The farm is actually awesome because i like it. It's simple and i learn so much. I know more and more about cars and welding and all types of stuff really. I like the 10$ an hour in cash type pay. Keeps taxes out of it and i can work a nice schedule.

My other jobs are Sam's Club Demonstrations. I am a free sample person there. 11$ an hour and it's easy. All i need to do is be careful standing there so long. haha its hard to stand that long but it's easy otherwise! Then i work in hell a little. I have to work at the cafe at least a day a week or even two at times. It used to be way worse but for minimum wage it's still terrible. Being a dish washer has to be one of the shittiest things ever. That job is so bad, the reason they hired me is because the last guy had a mental break down in the back.. it's rough. but it's easy to balance with school and shit.

So yeah. I get the most hours in at the farm right now. i usually do about 4 days a week from 7-8 in the morning tip 2-3 in the afternoon. So i get a nice chunk of change. Plus i watch his kid for another 5 hours once a week so it's rather easy.

I'm clearing a fat stack once a week. lol But it's a shame school is coming around now that my jobs are in full swing. If i could keep it up i would. The simplest job is grass cutting. Gives me that extra dough for gas or whatever. I do it when I want basically. Once or twice a week.

Nice thing is balancing all these jobs with ease and I can actually make enough for a car pretty soon. But i STILL have plenty of time to ride and hangout with friends. I do work too much to even bother having a girlfriend but who needs em? lol

Though, I don't believe in buying parts because they are 2oz lighter like TI parts, thinner bars, tires, tubes, frames
I'm thinking of building a odyssey clutch/Black Sheep/hawk 2.4 rear wheel for weight reduction to try to make learning tail-whipes less painful on my face.

ps: My back wheel currently weighs 5lb with the tire. pinch
(48h Eastern birectional, Maxxis Mirracle, kinlin BM rim) so.... yea.....

I usally caught crankarm with my front foot first back just kind of goes where it needs to go. Rotate into your front foot. It's all arms no legs. Catch front crank arm "first" then the rear foot just kind of goes where it needs to go if you have the rotation.

I found it easier to heel the crankarm of my front foot near the spindle. Then the back foot just goes where it needs to go. If i landed a whip on my pedals I F't it up, I always landed on my crankarms near the spindel, always. Then corrected my foot position after the fact.

Worry about your front foot. Worry about your bike rotation. Don't worry about your rear foot nearly as much.

Yes light bike and wide bars helps a bit with getting the whip around I've noticed. I can't get anywhere close to hop whips with narrow bars and my coaster haha.

my biggest thing- at least with the jam whips, is the speed to dail down to just before the jam- if ive got to much, i go over, to little and it seems like i dont have enough pop to bring the back end up-

then again the last time i was really seriously hunting the jam whip was back when my bike was nearly all stock- which was like, idk, maybe a year and ahalf ago- i decided i'd try and lighten my bike up and get some stronger parts on it because my stock parts were showing signs of failure... and i was gonna try more stuff. maybe i'll try em again soon.

max just keep working on the whip. if you can do it on the ground you can do it in the air, ya know what might help is getting no footers and Nac Nacs down first, especially since their nearly the same thing- minus the whip but they'll give ya a similar feeling in the air- just getting more used to that feeling might be enough to help ya land the trick.

Yeah. I can do no footer can cans and stuff. I have a few things i can do so I'm not freaking out. I've worked my way up to it and it's really just time to dial it in!

thanks! I like foot jam whips. they are really really fun to do on a bank to fakie!
