How do you feel about the popularity of BMX?

Do you think it's too mainstream with the X games and whatnot? Or do you think it deserves more recognition? is it just right?

I feel that BMX needs some more coverage. We need a legit bmx video game, like the Skate series. I would buy an xbox JUST to play that game. If you search, "how to film bmx." you get no results. if you search "how to film skate" you get TONS of results. Bmx needs some more coverage.

The good thing about bmx not being popular enough (in my opinion), is that swagfags aren't fucking with it...yet?

I agree with you pretty much; I think it needs more coverage but at least there aren't many swagfags and the like involved in the sport.

bmx should stay exactly where its at. good companies that make good parts and do good business will keep everything alive.

the reason i speak against bmx getting bigger is because the moment i see some former ICP scene core fuckface wearing an Animal shirt out in public then giving me some faggoty head-nod as if we have some sort of connection, thats when bmx is over for me. ill know its reached into the lives of the wrong people.

I like how it is for the most part. I just wish it'd get more popular where I don't really have anyone to ride with except skateboarders

|

9/3/2013 9:11 PM

keep it where it is. any more coverage and it will turn into the dubstep of extreme sports. gets big because of some skanky pool canoe and then it becomes out of date and lame. dont let that happen to bmx! NO SKANKY POOL CANOES!!!!

|

9/3/2013 9:21 PM

I feel like it's just right at the moment. The biggest difference i've noticed between bmx and skateboarding is that bmx seems more tight knit and companies have a closer relationship with the customers, they just seem more grateful in general too. I hope it never gets to the point where skateboardings at right now, tons of random companies trying to cash in while its hot and kids carrying around boards as an accessory.

BMX NEEDS MORE COVERAGE!
That's just what I feel, I see a lot of skate shops around and lots of local/underrated/natural talent skaters get flowed and everything
I just think it bmx gets more coverage, it gets more revenue, which hopefully leads to more bmx friendly or specific shops and those natural talents/underrated/ locals get flowed and the bmx scene becomes nicer and better, YES there will be posers BUT the majority of bmx will be real.

I just HATE seeing so much skating on tv commercials and no bmx EVEN THOUGH those companies have bmx sponsors, and yes I'm talking about YOU Mountain Dew!

I think that a growth in bmx will be slow as products prices are rising and bmx is a hard ass sport, many people just dont try.

That last part is exactly how I feel, that's what happened to skating people wear active shirts and Plan B shirts and don't even skate. I think bmx is good where its at; we have great companys with great parts we have the X-Games and bmx is considered a legitimate sport but its not too mainstream where its ruining it for those of us who truly ride because we love to.

I think it should continue to grow.

Hell, if I let all the cocky, painted on pants that don't cover their ass wearing, beanie in 90 degree weather wearing, wannabe pothead kids ruin it for me, I would have quit YEARS AGO. Back when I started, it was about doing your thing, whatever you chose, and no one cared. Hell I had ONLY one or two BMX shirts back then, no one said a thing. Now if you are a rider and aren't plastered in BMX logos, you are a piece of shit in the eyes of the younger rider crowd. Kids have taken BMX and turned it into so many subgroups (street vs dirt vs park vs brakes vs brakeless vs freecoasters vs cassettes and so on) that you are LITERALLY causing all the lack of coverage and hatred from non-riders yourselves. People see constant harassment to others, disrespect and just all around kids being little hoodrat dipshits and you all have the audacity to whine about a lack of a spot to ride or someone wearing something and not riding? How much of a damn hipster attitude is that? "If bmx becomes popular enough for non-riders to have riding stuff on, I'm done". Are you kidding me?

You bash riders based on their setup, you bash them based on their style, you bash them based on their skills, you bash them based on companies they like, you bash them based on the COLOR of their bike, and here you are, whining that someone MIGHT SOMEDAY wear a shirt with a BMX brand on it and *GASP* NOT EVEN RIDE?!?!?! SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!!

Seriously, who gives a shit. Let them wear what they want. If it means your favorite company gets more money to design new parts or better their current line, so be it.

To those whining about spots, BUILD YOUR OWN, contact your local city government about HOW TO HELP THE CITY GET A PARK (not just "can we have a skatepark"), PUT IN WORK AND REAP THE BENEFITS.

To ANYONE who cannot show respect to other riders, sell you damn bike and get a new hobby. We are all in this for the same thing, FUN. Being an asshole about other peoples' things doesn't help. Oh and one more thing, DO YOUR DAMN WORK IN SCHOOL. BMX doesn't need to be handed down to a bunch of retards who cannot use proper grammar or spell correctly.

And here comes both hate and justifying your opinion comments below.

Here's the way I see it. If it grows, yes more swaggots and douchebags will get into it. At the same time, there are a lot of riders who are douches. I honestly wouldn't mind either way.

One upside is people would stop asking me if I can pop a wheelie haha

I believe it should be more mainstream! I tell my peers that I ride bikes and they say "You still do that?" I try to say it's legit BMX and they don't know what I mean. It seems everyone thinks that it's something you stop doing when you're 11 years old, but it's obviously not.

I don't think it should get more media attention, because that's when you get all the swagfags joining in. I know around where I live it got big for alittle but all the riders where all douche swagfags that only wanted fit or premium bikes and had no park etiquette which is why I stopped riding park

and plus I like that fact that out of all the kids at my college im the only one that actually rides

If it was more popular it would be great for the industry but i like having a smaller community of riders. I don't like when something i like becomes a trend then everyone does it and it kills the fun a lot of the time. Imagine all the spots that would get busted because of all the stupid riders that give the security guard shit etc. That could lead to more parks though. In my area its our group plus a handful of older riders. I'm one of two serious skaters in my town. The other one is like 20 haha. Bmx getting more popular would be good and bad, it would be good if you don't like street and live in a big city, you could end up with a park. Or you could end up with all your spots getting busted. It all depends if you're surrounded by assholes or good people. So it depends on your area. In the longrun it would be better. More popularity = more people = more money in the industry. It could end up like Rob Dyrdek building parks and shit who knows.

|

We need more companies like Stranger, Skavenger, Mutiny & FBM. They all do their own thing and aren't influenced and don't sponsor riders for popularity or any of that shit.

I do stuff and I'm not good at it.

It just needs to stay where it is it seems like companies that you buy off the internet try to get your new stuff you buy to you as quick as possible cause i live in stl and when i buy of dans before 6 with standard shipping it gets here the next day. Now thats good service
