How many of you dudes are running shorter crank arms?

I've been told time and time again about the merits of having shorter crank arms. So much, that if/when I eventually get new crank arms, they'll definitely be shorter than 175mm.

How many of you run 170mm or 165mm and how do you like it? What kind of stuff does it help with? And does it hinder anything? I've heard it can help with rotation and sucking up the bike, that it's better for your back, but i've also considered that it might be harder to get speed/crank hard.

I was running 160mms on my Streetland bike, I am taking those & putting them on my dedicated Flatland Bike & i will be replacing them with 165mms. I love short Cranks Arms! Its not a HUGE difference but it does make your hops feel like they have more pop to them.

I just got 165's but I haven't been able to put a proper session in on them yet. Spent to much time nose picking banks

I'm a punk bmxer, I can't do it well so I do it loud.

I'm running 175mm atm but I had a pair 170mm and they do help with spins, I felt more connected to my bike, but there aint a lot in it really, does effect your a bit speed but not much.

I preferred my 170s but whats 5mm in the great scheme of things

Freestyle is the answer to everything --
a fresh way to approach a dull or a
dangerous thing.
to do a dull thing with style
is preferable to doing a dangerous thing
without it.

a friend of mines had 165mm on his bike, they actually felt really good when it came to having more control in the air and more stable overall, I would rather have longer arms though just for speed

Been on 165's for probably 4 months now and i have no plans of going back to 175's. As for what it helps with i think spins just feel more solid and i feel like i have more control over my bike in general. Pedaling there's not a huge amount of difference, i have no problems getting speed.

Do they make a difference on turndowns at all? dont really know if they would affect it but seems like it may be a trick shorter crank arms would hinder!

I highly doubt it would, we are talking about 5mm... barely anything.

I've been really wanting to go shorter than 175 but I've never done it.
I feel like I would enjoy it since I'm only about 5' 7"

most of my friends ride 165-170mm cranks and i hate them. I ride 180mm and just seem to not like the shorter feel.
