How much do you think crank length matters?

Personally, I don't believe that a 20mm total difference in where my feet are at between 175 and 165 cranks could make me hop higher or spin faster, but I've been wrong about crazier things.

If it didn't matter or make a difference, they would all come in one size. /thread

Also, this belongs in the video section grin

So 130mm to 220 is a 3% increase in gearing?? That's the range they were talking about. 170-165 is probably almost no difference.

That was a different study than the one that found the 3% gearing change. I couldn’t find that one again somehow so I can’t reference it exactly. Regardless though you’re probably right in that the difference is probably negligible.
In my opinion, never enough to justify that as a reason for different length cranks in freestyle.

It’s seriously insane how in depth some of these things go when it comes to the other styles of bicycles. People legitimately obsess over it.
I made this video once before and messed up in how I explained it. You would’ve thought I crucified the inventor of the bicycle themself.

It's all personal preference. That is all.

I don’t notice too much on my bike in terms of angles , spacing , etc . But going from 175 to 165 , it was noticeable for sure .

I can feel the difference in crank length. I went from 175 to 170 and it feels way different.

I used to prefer 180, but now I prefer 175. I can feel the difference but it's not enough to change my riding or make things easier/harder

I felt the difference when I switched from 175 to 170. I felt different for about an hour, that's it. Nothing else changed, nothing became easier. I switched back to 175 for a minute, and I could definitely feel more torque. It felt like I lost a tooth or 2 in my sprocket actually. My back tire was also smaller so that could have made more of a difference than the cranks, not sure.
