As mentioned 27lbs isn't actually that heavy. You look like you'r riding Dirt & don't have any pegs. My suggestion would be to save up a shit ton of money & buy a reeeeally nice wheelset that you can take with you to another bike down the line..

I know it isn't gunna be cheap BUT... Its a HIGH quality, SUPER light weight & is still strong enough for any style of riding.

The bikes I started in were mid to low 30s. And the bike I'm on now weighs prolly 25ish. Weight affects nothing. It's all technique and practice in bmx
I'm on the vital legit list!
I think weight affects riding. Not a few ounces but after riding a 22lb bike and then a 30lb bike I can still 180 and 3 and shit but it's easier on a lighter bike. Then again I don't have much muscle haha. I think geo affects my riding more than the weight of my bike.

Weight has an effect for some. For me, a 22 lb bike just felt too light, like I didn't have anything under me. I don't know what my current setup weighs, but I would guess between 25-27 with zero weight weenie parts and a 48h Gsport wheelset.

Thanks man, i pride myself in knowing pretty much everything about BMX. I have worked in a few shops & helped out with a couple of little companies a couple of times. Designed my own parts, had a couple of custom frames & parts made to my specifications. Spent a decent cars worth of money on bike parts haha. Got badly Injured & basically to keep me sane i have studied pretty much every part going & keep my eye on whats coming out. BMX is my lifestyle & my passion, so i want to know everything i can!
27 pounds is magnificent, as long as the geo's to your liking.. I'm of the mind that a decently light bike is good, but keeping it around 25 to 28 pounds is how you build good technique.. that is, of course, if you're not scrawny.

I imagine trying a bunny hop on a 20 pound bike is like being on a bmx race bike...

It depends what you get tbh. Nowadays most frames are sub 5lbs. Forks are sub 2lbs, Even straight gauge bars are sub 2lbs too. Wheels are getting insanely light too! I mean the Tree Straight Pull & Odyssey Antigram Cassette Hubs are 14.5oz! I can remember 24.5oz PLUS cassette hubs! Kevlar folding tyres. You can make any new bike sub 25lbs without trying nowadays. I'm building up my new bike right now & I'm 99.9% sure i'm gunna get it under 25lbs without even trying too.
I'm gonna to come and rape you in your virgin ass so fuckin hard..

I really wanna try a ti eastern with all ti parts. Just to see how sketch it is.
But yeah 27 is good especially to start.
Yeah 22 is a bit light. It could be 21 I didn't weigh it. I didn't really try to make my bike light I just bought the parts I liked and it came out light. I liked my 25lb bike too and plan to rebuild a similar set up soon.
