get a decent tire pump.
and a multi tool made by one of the bmx companies.

or.. just slowly buy the tools you need as you need them.

allen wrenches
socket wrench
hammer.
six pack of beer
tire levers
pedal tool
tire pump
adjustable wrench
more beer.

You're definitely gonna need a 6mm Allen wrench and possibly an 8mm. I'd recommend getting a bicycle multi tool, they usually have any sized Allen you would ever need on a bike and it fits in your pocket. Get a spoke wrench and a chain breaker, both of which oftentimes come on the multi tools I mentioned. Get a socket wrench and you'll need a 17mm socket and/or a 14mm socket depending on the size of your axle nuts. Also, if you run pegs you're gonna want an extension for that socket wrench. I'd also recommend picking up a crescent wrench.

Backpack
Multi tool
Chainbreaker
Beer
Bottle opener
I got a bottom bracket press cause fuck it why not
Beer fridge
More beer
Tire levers ( I hate big tires so some of the smaller tires are stiff as hell and hard to get off)
Always handy to have a few boxes of tubes
Allen key set
Tire pump or dollars for compressors at the gas station

Really the key things are the back pack multi tool, chain breaker and the beer

I can work on my bike but I honestly hate working on bikes , my riding buddy for some reason loves working on bikes so allot of the time I just give him my bike and show up with a case of beer to split with him, that methods handy if you have the option

The animal kotulak multitool has everything you need, including a spoke wrench and chain breaker. I think albe's still has them for around $35. Copped one for $20 on black friday and that thing rules.

Start with a multi tool and build up from there.

17mm and 14mm wrenches or deep sockets if you run pegs
15mm wrench for pedal flats
2,3,4,5,6 and 8mm allen keys
Chainbreaker
Set of Spoke wrenches
Plastic coated steel core tire levers or some burly plastics
Any heavy hammer for clean bb installation

Too bad you can’t buy tools, just buy more beer instead.

Since working on bikes I've found the spoke wrench invaluable. The tire thingy is a really good thing too. I had all the sockets I needed already from working on cars but I'm slowly building up bicycle specific tools.

The little super flat wrenches for working on axle bolts is really good too. But I'm not sure if you need those for BMX bikes......
