For those of us who are returning BMXers from before the internet, vital is sorta like the magazines we would buy monthly and read cover to cover. Hell, eventually you were so thirsty for content, that you read so the ads! I miss that aspect. Sadly, it doesn't quite cut it by comparison.

I would go into a local grocery store and read bmx plus before going riding.

I used to read RideBMX when they still offered a subscription to their magazine.

Gave up on BMX to hang out with 13 year old soundcloud rappers, what a life, such a cool guy!

Don’t put 25.4 bars in a 22.2 stem.

I won a t-shirt shootout in BMXPlus! These older BMXers from the next town over found me and we were all stoked. I had stacks of BMX magazines but that's the only one I kept.

My last BMX Plus was in 2010/11’ish. Feature interview was Scotty Cranmer too, damn i wish i could find it. If i had my old 80’s issues, that’d be awesome

Come, as you are. As you were. As “they” want you to be....

Yeah... I had a whole trunk full of BMXAction & BMX Plus . I really wish I haven't tossed them all when I moved.

I kind of miss magazines too. But there's less to clutter up. I've got boxes full of magazines in my basement that need to be thrown out..... LOL. Not bmx ones though. So...… no retro reading to be had on that subject from me.

It's less about the retro-reading (which would be awesome!) and more about that paging thru the fresh magazines and longing for the bike porn of the day. Reading everything cover to cover to get your fix.

No way will a forum or social media ever replace the level of stoke that came with bmx magazines in my experience.

Before all the ego and a lot of douchebag shit surfaced, when printed content was at the core it all certainly seemed more significant and valuable. There was greater respect, and not just within the sport but most everything.

I think that is another reason why the art of still images isn't anywhere near as appreciated as it should be these days. Clips are just clips for the most part, but great images can give something more significant. Still images leave more to the imagination, which might also incite more creative style and individualism.

Back then I also feel that watching a VHS or DVD was something that was far more memorable, as it was a lesser occurrence than flicking through the latest magazine. Nowadays I think do I actually have time to consider watching a full video edit, which for me has mostly come about since social media is constantly being saturated with clips.

Print was better. Change my mind.

Not exactly the same but it'll have to do (especially for us old-timers):

https://oldschoolmags.com/magazines.html

Some are downloadable.

The one I used to buy in the 90's was BMX Plus! Would dream about what it was like to ride bikes 4x my budget that weren't sold in any local shops even if I did have the cash. Great times!

Definitely. Vital is a must stop for me now when I am thirsty for content. I love seeing what people are talking about around the forums, and the videos and content Kyle shares on the homepage is wonderful. It's great not having to rely on FB or IG for updates and industry news.

I used to be a fiend for the magazines back in the day. I still have a trunk in my parents attic full of old school Snap, Ride, and Transworld mags from the late 90's/early 00's.

My trunk (which is long-gone, unfortunately) was full of BMX Action and BMX Plus magazines, dating back to the late 70's, & throughout the 80's, with a few 90's in there for good measure.

Did you end up tossing them? I should probably check to make sure mine are still there (and maybe rescue them). It's cool keeping them around for nostalgia but other than that I am not really sure what to do with them lol.

Yeah, I tossed them. Makes me sad to think I was so stupid.

The late 70's? You must've got into it pretty young.

Been riding BMX (ish) since about 79. My friends brother was into BMX and had a lot of old magazines that we would go thru. I inherited a bunch of those as well.

You got me curious. I thought I had tossed my old rags when we moved, but it looks like that was only the high school stuff. Just found this buried with my old college reference books! 6 or 7 issues of Ride per year from 1998 through 2003, with a few outliers, and one Ride UK in it's goofy oversized format. Looks like I've got some reading to do.

As much as I like the information age with constant access to current events, there was something monumental about getting a good old hard copy.
