Hello,

I come from the world of fat a$$ skateboard shoes.. I'm talking bout Osiris dc3's, Etnies Vallely's, E/S Scheme, Adio Kenny Anderson's..

Yeah they had a fat ass base.. but all also had a narrow as WHAT front toe end.. they killed me after a bit..

I imagine as that type of shoe is almost 10 years ago that things have changed..

So in 2014 I am looking for a shoe in the vein of the Nike Janoski's... but you know, not one that is $90!!!!!!!

vans makes some great shoes, the waffle pattern is perfect for pedal pins to grab onto as well
go for their "pro skate" model line because they are a lot more durable, and i find the sole to be less floppy
i just get whatever is on sale, and its not hard to find a reasonable pattern of the "pro skate" line for 50$ or less
anyways, whatever you ge, do yourself and get something that you can go to a physical store and try on instead of buying online with no idea of if you'll fit/like it
i had nike sb teams for a period of a bit over a year, but only because i found some in a good style for 40$ a pair, so i got 3 sizes and used those
damn good shoes, but not worth the price unless you can get a good deal

My Half Cab Pro's started falling apart the first day. When I pedalled , the crank would rub against the shoe , and the "Duracap" toe rubber bullshit peeled off the first ride . The soles chip and wear out decently fast . And the shitty ass mesh on the side ripped soon after , with the glue of the sole slowly came loose.

Get Janoski's or Almond

I have the Etnies Brake 2, and for wear on the outside they are ok (I have brakes) BUT the heel portion doesn't cup my heels well, and they slip up and down, causing them to wear out quick. Plus they are super low.

When I used to skate a ton, my half cab lites lasted the longest of any shoe other than the Nike. Maybe I got a good pair in a good batch then

As mentioned above, regular suede half cabs will do the job just fine. Stay away from the dura cap, super tuff version or whatever they are called. I made the mistake of dropping $80 on them, they are supposed to be more durable, but they blow shit. The toe cap thing sucks.

I have two pairs of halfcabs i ride in. The gum sole is shitty with metal pins (gets shredded apart.) Other than that, the Ballistic suede is crazy durable and the regular suede is good too. They look good, are pretty comfy, grip amazing, last decent, and are about $45 on Danscomp.

Agreed. I took a gamble on those simply because they did seen pretty rugged, sadly they are only rugged if they aren't on someone's feet.

Might think im taking the piss but Dunlop Green flash.

Comfortable, made for running and jumping (popular with professional tennis players) good pedal grip, durable, (although better with brakes, like many non skate/bmx shoe, they arent made for sliding on the ground all day. ) they are also dirt cheap my last pair cost £15.

Those look nice... anyone know what sizing is like for Lotek? My size 12 vans are a little tight, but 13s are freaking huge... wish they made a 12.5..

If the latest BTM shoes are like the ones from a year or so ago, they should hold up really well for you. I rode two pairs of them & neither of the bottoms ripped up, and I do a lot of footjam tricks too so yeah. I never dragged my feet on the ground or my tire to slow down either so that helped make them last longer too.

I DID however rip a hole in the big toe on my footjam foot though, but mine were the suede model which likely had something to do with that, the one pictured above should be okay because my Reeves sigs shoes have not done that at all.

Only bad thing I can say about the BTM shoes is that they were a low top shoe, but that's more a preference thing really. Sprained my ankle a few times in them, but have yet to do so (knock on wood!) with my Reeves shoes which are a bit higher (Mid top I think?) and have a little more ankle support. Just something to think about.
