Too many of them are coming out. its kinda getting annoying. odyssey is making one and the shadow conspiracy's instagram just showed their new raptor coasters. I think you should only ride a free coaster for 2 reasons...
#1 you ride flatland
#2 you are doing 180s down 10+ stairs.
But thats just my opinion. what about you guys?

i think they are really good when used properly, like flatland and really tech street (bruno hoffman, ak, etc)

1/9/2014 4:09 PM

I like the idea. Honestly, I think they will become better and replace cassette hubs completely someday. Instant engagement and close the that will become standard, and they will be easier to use. Like being able to pedal pressure.

|

1/9/2014 4:12 PM

They serve good purpose, but most people are just buying them because theyre becoming trendy. I would personally never ride one because I pedal pressure alot and use back pedaling to balance myself during fakie. All the new coaster hype makes me really respect cassette riders like Churchill who do crazy fakie shit. I remember when I saw Churchill 540 over a box and fakie out the landing. I just about shit my pants! If he would have done it on a coaster I wouldn't have blinked an eye.

I've been riding them on & off for YEARS!.. Nankai, Odyssey Reloader, KHE (CRAP!) & when My KHE Shit the bed on Me about 100 times I gave up on them! I really got back into My Flatland last Year so I got an EZRA which is Fucking Superb! & I will be getting a Wethepeople Helix for My Utopia We Make Things hooked Me up with for Streetland Riding & I will be getting an Eclat Blind when it eventually drops too! That will be going on a slightly bigger Streetier Bike but will obviously still be riding a similar style!

I don't think i could ever get into coasters. I can't ballance a fakie without pedaling backwards.

I'm probaly going to order one today. They look fun. I'm not great at biking but I love 180's and going backwards , plus style over tricks is my mindset and I believe a freecoaster would definately keep me entertained.

Yes , it's a trend. (I've said all the time , I've been wanting one just before the got huge) I thinking cruising backwards down the street would be sick , and half cabs could really open my possibilities at spots up.

Im psyched on coasters, I just see it as preference and another option for riders. Yeah I guess you could call it a trend at the moment but i feel like it's something that's here to stay, especially now that companies are working to improve and innovate them.

|

1/9/2014 5:26 PM

its pretty fun if you know how to fake, problem is rarely nobody tries to fakie until they get on a free coaster. this will spawn a bunch of idiots trying to roll backwards. every trick i learned with a free coaster i re learned with my cassette.

i can fakie so much cleaner on a cassette than on my coaster

I bought a coaster and it was fun for about a week, after that I just sold it, I won't go back and I find it easier to fakie with the cassette when landing backwards fast.

I'm getting one. I need a new wheel thats LHD , I've been running a RHD stock cassette that has locked up to my frame. So why not get a LHD freecoaster ! Locking forward to it.

As much as colored tires were vintage trend, I personally think the Cult gum tires are gay.. But they're not as gay as Kenda Kontacts (NO SHIT) and Odyssey colored tires.

I'll never go back to a cassette, and people that ride with me know why.

I also find it kind of funny how everyone is saying all the freecoasters are generic blah blah.
Well what about other parts like handlebars, seats, etc?
You guys can't tell me that you think all of those parts are TRULY unique?
I can find plenty of parts etc that have the same exact geometry, come in the same colors, etc.

As the old saying goes, "if it isn't broke don't fix it".

ride what you like and how you like. That's my motto.(freestyle?!) some people dislike more the idea that something is trending, than the actually thing that's trending. don't mind fuck yourselves.

FREE not under the control or in the power of another; able to act or be done as one wishes
STYLE a particular, distinctive, or characteristic mode of action or manner of acting

1/9/2014 11:37 PM

I ride a cassette but I want a freecoaster because I do a lot of fakie stuff and it opens up more options. It's other people riding freecoasters not you, so why do you care? No one is forcing you to ride one.

Rob ridge and luc-e ride them.

Although i have just sold my freecoaster wheel after three years on it, i doubt im going to look back until i get the eclat blind for flatland. Thought about the ezra but im stubborn and not keen on them as a company.

How about the real OGs like Ian Schwartz, Bruce Crisman, Cory Jarman...or if we wanna be really anal ( I know Clark does) how about the real real OGs who just modified coaster brakes and invented Freecoasters in the 80s

Well not really. People get them because they enjoy doing backwards tricks.

I'll be getting an Eclat Blind Hub for My Utopia, But that will be a LEGIT Streetland Build! I do however enjoy going forwards at Mach 10, On My Newly Acquired Beauty, I WILL be running a Cassette, One with SUPER Fast Engagement! wink

Oh my, I'm gonna cope a Blind, too.

1/10/2014 10:37 AM

Interestingly, until i joined this football, i didn't realise freecoasters were used so little. I've only ever had experiences where freecoasters have been in use tongue My friend found that odd...

I haven't been riding long, so that might explain it.

I find riding without a freecoaster to be a bit of a hindrance. Seems like it just makes everything much easier to have one.

|

1/10/2014 10:40 AM

I would love to try that Eclat out, but I'll probably be too broke when it drops.

I'm saving for full width 1-ton axles, slip yoke eliminator, Tom Wood rear drive shaft & a Ox locker to match the ARB air locker in front. I'm not really looking forward to setting the pinion gap in the diffs, but it certainly puts wrenching on bikes in to perspective.

BTW, it took nearly a week to ditch the pedaling backwards thing when fakie on a FC. It really does feel like I'm more balanced if I'm pedaling backwards, just what I'm used to at the moment though...
