Literally no one i know rides their parts and it doesnt seem like anyone cares about them company wise, no hype for them really. I feel as though the only way they stay in business or make money is their patent on pivotal posts. After pivotals die Macneil will soon shut down.

I too have thought about this. I personally dislike Macneil as they wanted Gary Young to get rid of his Brake, especially the Gyro (I don't hate Brakeless by the way, just I don't think anyone should be told to change their setup). What I find funny is nowadays Gary Young rides a Straight Cable and sometimes rides Brakeless

maybe the illuminati is keeping them in business

I honestly do think its the Pivotal system that's keeping them a float. I mean as you said, who runs Macneil parts? I honestly cant remember the last time i saw ANYONE with anything Macneil on their bikes! I know they're trying to change things up a bit, get new team members, offer new products but sadly most of the shit they offer is just that shit.. Picked from a catalog, their logo slapped on it & then charge as much as parts from other companies who've actually put time & effort into designing their parts. Now that the Tripod system seems to be gaining popularity i can see seriously see pivotal dying out & then sadly i think that will be it for Macneil.

It has always puzzled me as to how they stay in business. Out of all the riders iv ever met no one has rode or had anything good to say about them. Like you said maybe the trail guys are into them but idk.

I had a macneil seat which I loved.
My friend has a post.
Another friend has Hubs
Like 5 or 6 more people have hubs.
Forks & frames are kinda common.

I guess we like macneil.

I'm not quite sure where you got the idea that I think trails riders are into them, in fact if anything I said the opposite lol.

I have seen several people on here with their frames, forks, and some other parts. Never known anyone in person, but then, I have known more people with really nice Mongooses than any other bike, but that WAS back in the 80's, haha.

I'm not saying Macneil are bad or anything but I've only seen three Macneil Parts in my life; Some Bars, which my Friend had which he only got because they were very cheap, a pair of Grips that another friend got for free with a wheel build, and a very old Frame.

Also, just because we don't see many of a particular brand on here or in life doesn't mean nobody buys that brand. I'm the only one on vital with the G7 frame, aside from Flip, (that I know of, anyway) but they obviously sell more than just the frame that I bought. No bmx brand could possibly stay in buisinesses if the only people who bought their products were people on here and the people they know. We all probably couldn't keep ONE of those companies afloat, much less all of them.

I don't think you knew what I meant. Young used to ride for Macneil, but left when they tried to get him to get rid of his Brake. What I meant by the second bit was showing that he would probably not of minded making the change, but possibly as Macneil were rude enough to ask him to get rid of his Brake, he left.

There's quite a few things I'm actually quite surprised i havent seen in person! I'll just go with Frames for now because i would spam the shit out of this thread if i did that...

Skavenger
Bone Deth
Colony
Deco
Fiend
Mankind
Premium
Mutiny
Credence
Stolen
Subrosa
United
Verde
Volume

I like to think i am pretty educated when it comes to BMX & i have had quite a few companies products & know a few pros & speak with companies quite frequently but I'm in my own little circle of friends/companies.

|

5/23/2013 11:17 AM

Of those I've only seen the premium, stolen, subrosa, volume. I haven't seen the rest. Everyone around here is stuck on kink, sunday, s&m. This area is more stuck on the trends and don't really try anything new.

I'm on the vital legit list!

I haven't seen a Skavenger, Bone Deth, Colony, Fiend or Credence (Although Credence is very new). I have seen a Deco in my local bike shop. I've seen a few Mankind Frames (Most if not all of which were the really low one). I've seen lots of Premium and Verde Completes, but not an aftermarket Frame. Mutiny is pretty popular around here, I've seen quite a few. Someone I know used to have a Stolen aftermarket Frame and I've seen plenty of Stolen completes. I've seen 1 or 2 Subrosa Frames and a few completes. I've seen loads of United Frames, in fact probably more than any other brand. A friend of mine used to have a Volume Frame.

Somebody came up with a new seatpost design awhile ago.Did it not catch on?

|

5/23/2013 12:41 PM

That would be the Tripod system Fly came up with. It is just now starting to blow up. Odyssey, Terrible One, Cult, Federal, Proper, Deluxe & Mutiny are all working on or have Tripod seats coming out soon. I'm pretty sure its going to replace the pivotal system. However i do think there will be die hard pivotal fans who will never switch much like there are still a few riders with railed seats.

|

5/23/2013 12:52 PM

they have kevin kiraly now who is an insane rider with grate style and it seems like they are stepping up their game game with his new frame this

I remember how fast everyone switched to pivotal when they first came out. Companies literally jumped on that shit over night and they sold very well. And while the tripod system is an awesome design and probably superior, it hasn't done to pivotal, what pivotal did to railed seats.(completely replace them overnight) I think thats because the jump in design from rail to piv was such a no brainer and all around easier to manufacture and install. To me, the jump from piv to tripod isn't as big.. while still great, I don't see it replacing the pivotal altogether. The smaller conveniences trip has over piv aren't enough to totally hype the industry.

The pivotal system was probs number one in terms of gaining popularity fast. Then maybe plastic pedals fallowed by plastic pegs.. and folding tires.. fat seats and huge mutherfucking tires.

And I've been on MacNeil pegs for a couple years, love em! I'd buy another pair when these shit out.
