Ive been to the moon and back trying to make my brakes work correctly. Everything is set up right, pads toed, make perfect contact with the rim, EVERYTHING. I recently got dual compound Koolstop BMX pads which did nothing, so I replaced them with clear Odyssey A-pads which still dont do anything. I have previously used clear Odyssey Slim by Fours and clear Koolstop Supra2s. Ive scrubbed the rim dry, sanded it, rubbed soda on it, etc. and had no luck. My rim's sidewalls are raw, there is no paint.

Ive narrowed everything down to my rim. I just want an expert opinion on it.

My rim (Alienation 7up) is made from 7003E-T6 Aluminum. Most rims are made of 6061. Could the type of aluminum be affecting my braking performance? If I were to throw a 6061-T6 rim on, should my brakes work better?

Maybe? I would bet it is the rim causing your issue unless something is not dialed in correctly elsewhere. One thought came to mind, when you pull your brakes, does your gyro hit your gyro plate? I ran into that issue once, I swapped spacers around to put more space between my gyro and upper plate and the issue was gone. Basically when the gyro hits the upper plate, it might be enough to pull the brakes to slow down, but not enough to lock em up. I would suggest checking that out too.

Nah nowhere near close to my detangler plate. Everything is dialed, my pads make perfect contact with the rim. Ive toed them multiple ways too, from a small .5mm thick washer to a 5mm allen wrench and everything inbetween.

I will take photos probably tomorrow. Im guessing its just the material, 7000 series is harder than 6000 series I believe. I know a guy who hopefully has a mint Hazard Lite so im going to try and get that and hopefully problem solved.

Why not just get a chrome rim? You'll have great braking performance and the finish will last much longer.

Had one for the longest time and just spent a crap load of money to get rid of everything chrome. Wouldn't make sense to go back to it now.

Try a buddys wheel for long enough to see if it remedies the issue. Free to try and might get the answer for you.

Raw rim brakes a lot better than chrome rim from what I read.

I can't see the material of the rim affecting braking, unless your rim is severely weak where when you pull the brakes the rim flexes inward which I highly doubt.

If you have not tried this and if someone has already mentioned this please forgive, but use acetone/ meth spirits on the sidewalls and on your brake pads contact surface, make sure to thoroughly clean both and see how it works if its still not working try detol on the rim that should sure as heck work and if not then fuck me...
