I ride a 21tt and 8.75 rise bars. You should get a 20.75 tt or 20.8, but not a 20.5 if you are under 14 yo. 'Cause then it will feel uncorfortable. 8.75 bars with a topload and 20.75 tt will fit you well

How old are you? If your going to grow still go 20.75 , I found my 20.5 gave me allot of smashed knees on the stem

I rode a 20.5 until I was 26, 6 feet tall all along the way. Kids saying you will be uncomfortable are basing it purely on their preferences. If you plan on growing a lot really soon, you can always get a longer reach stem or taller bars to accomodate in the shorter term.

Just starting out, just look for sealed bearings, as much chromoly as you can afford in the frame/fork/bars/cranks, and double wall rims (which is to aim for durability). Outside of that, pick a bike that looks good, and have fun.
