Was wondering if anyone knew what could be making this noise and how to fix it.

So when I go to petal after I've been coasting it makes a loud pop sound and sounds and feels like the chain is skipping but it's not it's coming from my rear hub (it's a cassette)

Basically what's happening is that your chain isn't rolling in a smooth circle.

Something is causing it to bind up at some point and push in to something creating that loud popping noise.

Here's some things to check:

1. Does your bike have the top hat spacer installed in your sprocket?
2. Is the chain line from your front sprocket and your rear driver fairly straight, or does it look like the sprocket is way off to the side?

Sprocket is almost 100% straight with the driver

Edit. Silly me
How tight is your chain?
It might just need bedding in as it sounds like the chain isn't engaging with the driver or sprocket teeth properly.
Is the sprocket bent at all?

Sounds like hub skipping which is fairly common with stock hubs
