Thinking about getting my son a new bike for Xmas, and looking for suggestions. He's 5'2" and a fuzz over 100lbs, but likely to grow fast (I'm 6'4"). He's not a very aggressive rider at this point but he spends a lot of time skating the local parks so he will probably end up riding his bike in the parks sooner or later too. I want to get him something that will work for that and maybe some dirt jumping/ trail riding.
I can spend around 400$. I'm guessing something with a 20.5 TT would be best so he doesn't outgrow it too soon but I would appreciate any input on size and brand in general, and any specific models that are good deals.

No worries, I appreciate the reply at any rate. I've seen a few bikes that look like really good deals but most of them are 21" TT, which I think is a little too big for him yet.

I'm only 5'8" and don't like my new 21" I think my last one was 19.5" or 20" and it was much more comfortable.

That's good to know, maybe 20.5" is still too long for him then.

We'll like Bikelove626 posted the best deal available right now is the DK Helio

http://www.albes.com/dk-helio-2015-bike-sale/

However it's a 21' top tube and will be too long for him for a bit. In the under $400 price range the Fit bikes seem to be the best bet. Check the link below for a list of the Fit Bikes under $400. There are even a few of last years models that are on sale for $299. The 2015 Dugan 1 bike in red is on sale for $325 and is a 20.5" top tube. That would be a great option.

Another bike that may be a good set up for him is the Colony Emerge. It's a 20.4" top tube, has some chromoly in the frame, full chromoly bars and a sealed rear hub at just $374.95. Check it.

There are a bunch of really good options there. If you have anymore questions let us know!

Thanks for the replies, I saw the Helios and I agree that it's a fantastic deal, but the 21" frame is just too big for him at this point.
Ive been looking at the Colony models mentioned, the Inception looks like a sweet bike too if I can stretch the budget that far.
Again, I appreciate the input.

Maybe a 21" wouldn't be bad for him if you want something for dirt jumps/trails it'll be more stable in the air: I'd look at some Fit, Sunday, We The People and Subrosa completes.

Also with the 21" it would last him longer if he hits a growth spurt, that way the bike fits him longer.

Although lots of it is personal preference I'm six foot and ride a bigger bike (21" frame, 9 inch bars, a decent amount of spacers and a top load stem) simply cause I like a bigger bike.

I'd get a bigger bike for him simply because he will keep growing and it'll give him time to grow into it.
