That's a lil to much gap for me, I'd use a smaller spacer and taller bars

I run my stem like the bottom pic and I have no issues. With spacers, it's always best to have at least 60% or more of the steerer tube in the stem.. Or at least that's my mentality. Never cracked a stem or steerer tube that way.

5mm spacer and you're good to go. Or chop the steerer a bit

get a smaller spacer, you definitely don't want that big of a gap but without any spacer the cap will bottom out on the fork and your headset won't get tight.

You need to be able to tighten your compression bolt, and it doesn't look like you can without adding a spacer. 2-5mm should be fine.
