I have seen many discussions about crank arm length. I am in the market for some new cranks and have seriously been considering some 160mm - 165mm. I run 175mm like most people now and I know the general rule is the taller you are the longer the crank arm. I am 5'10 but I have long legs.. I don't necessarily pedal while sitting down but it is next to impossible.. especially fakie.. Unless I choose to run a skyscraper seat post. I was wonder if it would maybe give me some more clearance as far as pedaling goes. Would I notice much of a difference? I don't care much about changing the way my gearing is, that I can adjust to.. Anyway . Any taller Riders riding shorter crank arms an whats your take? I know the general rule says no but I have thought about it for a while and I don't see how it could be anymore uncomfortable other than gear ratio.

Also new bike. Keep cliping the back pegs! Eh

Some people run shorter cranks so they don't hit their feet on their pegs, others run shorter cranks because it makes their hops and spins more comfortable.
I personally would really like to try out some shorter cranks (I've always rode 175mm)

Im 5.8 and I'm using 175s atm but I used to have a pair of 170s and they felt better for sure.

Freestyle is the answer to everything --
a fresh way to approach a dull or a
dangerous thing.
to do a dull thing with style
is preferable to doing a dangerous thing
without it.

Yeah I have always had 175. I think I am gonna give it a go. Just can't decide on 160 or 165. I mean if you are not racing I don't see the point. Never had a problem with my heals clipping the pegs but on this new frame it happens quite often. Pain in the ass!

I would recommend going 165 or 170
good balance between short and long

I'd go for the 165's, thats what i run and i love it

Yeah I think 165s will be what I do.. Been seeing quite a bit of taller riders going that route. I'm sure it may take some time getting used to.. I already run a pretty messed up gear ratio. 30/12 I like it quite a bit but I may have to do some changing.
