I just watched that style profile he was in and its fucking shameful.

KEEP BMX OUT OF THE MAINSTREAM

Pop culture has ruined everything it has ever come into contact with....its a fucking cancer.

He's making bmx look like a joke.

Rant over....

Anyone see that video, what are your thoughts?

there are pro skateboarders making millions while the top riders are MAYBE making 100 grand a year... BMX needs to be mainstream. there are big companies that do better for bmx then the "rider owned" ones are doing. take nike for example. they are always sponsoring stuff and getting bmx in spots it shouldn't be... while fbm on the other hand makes us look like we all just wanna get high and party and generally give us a bad rap. and he has used his bike throughout it all... he didnt use his bike to get famous and then give up on bmx. So he never really sold out...

I agree with what your saying to a point, but did you watch the video? It was pathetic, he's a joke.

I've got nothing against Nigel the rider, I actually think he's really good, that up rail crook to 360 in animals latest edit was one of the best things I've ever seen, but as a person he's full of himself, and I don't care who you are or what you've done with your life, if your ego overtakes your humility then you ain't worth shit.

Be careful what you wish for!

I'm sure you think now bmx should be mainstream, but watch what a mess the sport will be in after a few years of it.

You'll see.

Yeah I saw it, I don't see anything wrong with it. What's the actual problem here? Write it out instead of just saying "BMX will go mainstream." Even if it does go "mainstream" where there are lots of posers or whatever you're concerned about, us legit riders can still ride our bikes for the same reason we always do (for fun). I'd say the people like you bring a lot more negativity to the sport compared to Nigel. You've never even met the guy and you call him a prick.

I thought the style profile fucking sucked. He was pretty much riding in a suit, it had minimal things to do with bmx. He's definitely selling out, especially with the bike company with pharrell or whatever

Everyone's always mad when they see someone making money and getting a lot of exposure.

|

9/12/2013 8:17 AM

He's got skills. Like, real skills. I have no issue with someone making bmx into the way they make money, but more or less promoting a department store that's in shopping malls, a store that has zero to do with bikes no less, is what turns me off. Some people like money and a high life, its all good. Just hope that it doesn't cloud bmx as a whole, or ruin the image of the animal team either.

Nigel is nowhere near of a sellout. Think of that video as someone who actually likes to look presentable but happens to also ride BMX, there's nothing wrong with that. A sellout is Jereme Rogers (Google him) and Nigel is nowhere near.

You say I've never met him but I've seen enough of him lately to form an opinion. Maybe calling him a prick was a bit strong, I was just ranting but my main point is that bmx does not in my opinion need to be a part of popular culture, have you heard what that shit did to music.

It does the same thing to everything, it takes away all that's real about something and turns it into a laughable sub par version of itself, and I don't care what you say that's never a good thing.

Nike support bmx ? Fucking joke. Never seen any not pro contest and that is the important thing. They don't support other countrys than us, and again, that's important to support bmx everywhere. So, tell me how they support bmx. They fucking don't, they just care about money.

When Mikey started it was all about supporting the up and comers. Ever since then it has gone down hill a little but Niles also had to cut the bmx and skate divisions back alot.

Soulwhatever fuck off and go go be a bitch somewhere bmx needs to be mainstream stop trying to be a stupid hipster who "bmx's cause like, no one does it lol it's underground I'm raw" that's fucking stupid and that's what keeps bmx down

I bet you're the kind of bmxer who doesn't support bike shops and supports skating more than bmx itself SPOILER ALERT the more money you put in skating the more they don't give a fuck about us and make skateparks with the no bikes rule that they won't protest

Nigel Sylvester blowing up is gonna make people outside of bmx think that bmx is the new best hobby next to skating and hopefully it brings bmx more revenue

at least he was on his bike in the video. more exposure = more popularity = companies making more money = things like: more product innovation & development, more bike-friendly skateparks, more skateparks in general, etc.

i don't see what nigel is doing as bad. he's making money while putting the sport out there (even if you don't like his fancy nordstroms clothes). i cant possibly see how more positive exposure for our sport is bad.

i guess you won't be cool anymore when there are other people riding bmx in your town -_____-

Plenty of good riders in my town, and cool is the last thing I'm concerned with.

I don't care how many riders there are as long as they are in it for the right reasons.....TO RIDE BMX.

I'm sure you'll turn pro one day and you can have a big shiny ring on ya finger like Nigel. Lol

BMX becoming 'mainstream' brings a lot more positives to the sport than negatives.

yeah it truly does it brings companies more cash flow to work on projects it gets people who thought bad of it before to rethink their position on it and open up former non bike parks and even make more bike related parks but then we would see the annoying shit like justin bieber and shit direction or whatever on bmx bikes just because its the popular thing to do and trend fags riding just because its cool but in the long run when the hype dies down and all the trend whores move on there will be a lot more people into to bmx then there were before

I'm going to have to say it would be a bad thing if BMX becomes mainstream, I have nothing against riders making more money or anything its just that I've seen what happens when it becomes the "cool" thing to do and since that's what happened for a little while where I live and all it was was a bunch of swaggot kids that thought they had the best bikes in the world and would crowd the skate parks scared to do anything because they didn't want to scratch their all fit or premium bike and when ever the people who actually did ride fell they where the dumbasses and automatically sucked or the guys that had been riding had crappy bikes because they had scratches or because they didn't have either fit, premium, cult or shadow parts and turned BMX into a trendwhore sport where I live

Even if bmx goes mainstream and fucks everything up it should never stop us (legit riders) from riding and not giving a fuck about the fags that would take a bullet just to not scratch there bike. Even tho skating is mainstream and a lot of swagfags do it just to be cool it doesn't stop the ones who truly love it from doing it.

This. Keep bmx for the people who really want to ride it because it's fun, not because it's trendy. When it gets trendy and all the swagfags start to ride, it's gonna suck. It's kinda like the whole plug thing, within the last few years gauging your ears up was trendy as fuck and now it's kind of died out ( at least I feel that way)
