This.
They were bought by Pacific Cycles back in like 2002 or so, and they showed up in Department stores. Bike shops were not aware, so when they found out, they dropped GT, because GT had similar level bikes in shops and department stores, and the department stores undercut the cost.
GT dropped off the map QUICK.
They are working on rebuilding their name, and doing well, but people still have a bad taste in their mouth about it. Similar to Mongoose, who has shop and department store setups.
Honestly if I could get ahold of a decent Mongoose or GT frame with Geometry I like, I would consider it. I am not in the market for a frame, but who knows what I will end up with. Currently my frame does not have a warranty (Federal, it is a 90 day setup IF you send the card in, which I didn't) so warranty is not that big a deal to me as long as it doesn't snap, and I get maybe 6 months to a year out of it. 3 years on the Federal now.
