Picking my first BMX

It's not a bad starting bike, but there are definitely better deals


What other mail orders are in Australia? I only know of Lux and Strictlybmx.

I found one on Strictly that's on sale

2016 Cult Gateway for $550 AUD

It has a chromoly front triangle & steerer tube as opposed to the Sunday Blueprint's full hi-tensile frame & fork (Chromoly is stronger & will last longer than hi-tensile steel, but hi-tensile steel isn't necessarily garbage either when you're just starting out), but more importantly the Cult has fully sealed bearings in the headset, bottom bracket & hubs which will last longer and be better overall.


If you can link me to some other mail orders you can order from, I'll look through and see if there's any better deals. But so far that Cult's the best one I've seen

The blueprint looks good for $500 AUD. Depends on your height as well. The blueprint you linked only has a 20" top tube. If you are tall you may want something longer. I see lux has the 2016 Primers on sale now for $579.95. It may be a better fit and you can get it in larger top tube sizes.

Both are hi tensile steel frames but the primer does have cromo dropouts.

*edit* I agree that cult gateway is excellent for the price.

im about 5,8 so would it be best to go for something larger?

The 2016 Fly Neutron on Anchorbmx is the only one that's around the same quality for the price and still in your price range. It's a little better, but a downfall is it only comes in left hand drive and this could matter when/if you start to learn grinds, as you want the drive side to be on the opposite side you're doing grinds on.

It's about the same as the Cult Gateway

Hey dude, i'm from Australia too. Check out these following sites, LUXBMX, BackBoneBmx, StrictlyBmx, ChainReactionCycles. All these sites are great and safe

This bike is amazing for its price, full chromo, double walled rims, 4 pegs and 3 guards! (Would need another rear guard to grind on both sides without messing up your hub)

The only thing about this bike is that it does not have brake mounts so you would not have brakes and you would have to jam your foot in the back tire to stop... Probably not a good idea for a beginner though :/ I would highly recommend brakes for a beginner.

Look for a FULL chromoly frame, forks, bars, cranks, double walled rims, sealed bearings all round, female front axle.

If you price range is about 600AUD and you are wanting to get into bmx and not worry about messing around with parts and swapping them out too soon then i would spend a bit extra to get the good stuff!

Buy all the individual parts. Tons better quality and you will have a sick customized look that's exactly what you want. Also the size and geometry will be dialed perfectly for you. It's what I did for my first bike
