Many of you might have seen this the other day, but some might not have so I'm posting it here.

I'm liking the look of it, and if they're the Powerbite cranks I can see these being really popular. Weren't the OG Powerbites insanely strong and no one really ever had problems breaking them?

Kinda weird they steered away from the square spindle to a 16 spline spindle, but I did see comments saying the square spindle would cause wobbling/wear. Idk how true that is, never rode them. Anyway..

Shweet, wish it was square though. I still run the og powerbites but the pedal inserts just came loose. That is the cranks only flaw.

Aluminum cranks arent very good and i don't like how they look. I dont care how many pieces they have haha Chromoly are just 110% better. Why would anyone prefer them to Tunderbolts or splined cranks? Pinch bolts are poop.

Aluminum cranks won't flex on you, and won't bend like chromoly cranks.. That being said, they'd snap before they bend. So it's a bit of a trade off. That's my understanding of it anyway, I'm sure someone will come in here and add more knowledge to that who knows more about them than I do.

But I know the Powerbites are solid, not hollow like the Hollowbites, adding more strength. Some people prefer it, but like you said, I'd much prefer Thunderbolt cranks over these.

The square spindle designed would round off. I know some heavy riders who love these cranks, besides the spindle boss issues, the rounding of the cranks spindle was another issue.

Never had a problem with my powerbites or hollowbites, keep everything snug and use grease, no problems all around.

Used a set of OG powerbites and they were awesome, thread the pedals directly into the arm.

Was gonna make this thread but got lazy.

They look great. I'm stoked Primo bounced back and is killing it. I saw these on Sean's bike and dug them , really unique and supposedly strong. Supposedly the pedal boss was the issue but according to Primo on instagram the fixed it.

Bottom line , I want them. Crankarms anyone ?

Pedal boss issue was fixed with the Hollowbite v2, so I would imagine they'd bring that fix over to these as well.

Warrantied my last pair cause of the square spindle wear but I bought them from the fore sale section years ago and they still were in use for years before that. Now I'm on some 170mm powerbites

I'm not sure, that's just what I remember reading when they came out

Thats bad ass, im fully convinced that the 2 piece design if way better than a 3 piece any day

Not more bs trying to get the spindle ever in each arm, they don't come loose nearly as much as a 3 piece

If i remember right the pedal boss insert threads in one way and theres a little like washer that threads in behind it on the backside of the arm but reverse threaded compared to the pedal insert so It cant un thread. Not sure if anyone has ever had a problem with the steel insert biting the aluminum arm and deforming it to cause wobble

I never hear of anyone bending chromo cranks anymore, other than profiles (lol), and that pair of unfortunate haro cranks that rolled thru here the other day. And the stupid pedal boss problem annoys me and overall i find them to be quite ugly.

It can happen, not so much nowadays with the strength of parts. But that's the good thing about chromoly cranks in a way, it'll bend before it snaps. Aluminum will just break. But the Powerbites are solid aluminum as opposed to the Hollowbites which are hollow, which would mean more strength and less chance of snapping them to begin with.

It's an awesome update but seems a little late. So many good crank sets out these days, this'll just fall under the radar. Good shit, but nothing special. More people would eat this shit up if we were in the midschool era.

Ran og powerbites they where indestructible , but I doubt I'll ever need to buy another set of cranks don't see my profile race cranks or my fit indent 24s ever breaking.on me

Look ok. When Primo posted this on Instagram, they got shredded with tons of comments about the pedal insert thing.

I personally don't like the idea of having only one side with visible pinch bolts. Seems weird.

Yeah, i understand that, i just doubt many people will break Thunderbolts or many other chromo cranks (which are great for the ever so popular crank arm grinds, which i love). I am willing to bet if you gave these to the fattest kid you know and he dropped El Toro, these would break, but I bet you thunderbolts would be okay.

I don't know if I'd go that far, because honestly I've seen countless snapped chromoly cranks & even some snapped Wombolt/Twombolt cranks.

But I've never actually seen a broken pair of Powerbites. If you Google it, only the Hollowbite cranks show up. I'm sure broken Powerbites are out there, but I have yet to see one personally.

I'm not saying one's stronger than the other without a doubt, I'm just saying the Powerbites are stronger than they may seem.

|

10/18/2014 5:56 PM

I'm pretty sure i saw one set of snapped powerbites on bmx-f a while ago. That's it.
