I just received my new preassembled complete and before taking it for spin I noticed a gap between the bearings and lock nut(?) in the non-drive side of the rear hub. Am I missing a spacer, hub guard or is that normal?

It's my first proper bike after 5 years of occasional messing about with a 90's walmart bike so I'm new to all these fancy parts like sealed hubs. Brilliant forum you got here!

Loosen the wheel bolt and see if you can tighten it. A small gap there is pretty normal (there's a shoulder on the lock nut that pushes against the inner race of the bearing. If the whole lock nut touched the bearing it wouldn't spin properly. More expensive hubs have a machined lock nut that look a bit neater and fill most of the gap). But the gap does look a bit bigger than it should. If you have any doubts, take it to your lbs. If you mess it up yourself, you'll void any warranty
